Compensation & Schedule

  • Compensation: $22.00/hour
  • FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-exempt, Full-time, 40 hours/week
  • Shift: Split-shift schedule — Driver: 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM; Maintenance: 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM
  • Schedule Note: Daily start and end times may fluctuate slightly based on seasonal programming or transit demands.

About the Role

YWCA Tri-County Area (YW3CA) is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician & Driver with hands-on technical training and/or professional experience in building maintenance, facilities operations, or related trades. This multifaceted role is essential to our daily operations, primarily ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of children and passengers to and from our programming while maintaining the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and legal compliance. In addition to transit duties, the individual will serve as a key member of the Maintenance team, and will be responsible for independently performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting facility and equipment issues, completing routine repairs, and responding to maintenance needs as they arise. The Maintenance Technician will communicate with supervisors regarding repair needs and ensure necessary materials, tools, parts, and supplies are available or ordered.

Responsibilities

Driver:

  • Provide reliable transportation for Early Education students and adult passengers to and from local schools, field trips, camp, and YW3CA events.
  • Maintain active supervision of children during transit, ensuring a safe and respectful environment using Conscious Discipline skills and structures.
  • Manage the daily upkeep of the organization's Bus, including fueling, cleaning the interior and exterior, and the frequent installation and removal of car seats.
  • Adhere strictly to all Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) safety regulations and maintain accurate mileage and safety reports as required by YW3CA.

Maintenance Technician:

  • Resolve and complete work orders in a timely manner.
  • Respond to requests and provide exceptional maintenance support to our employees and tenants.
  • Troubleshoot and make routine repairs in the following areas: electrical infrastructure, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, ceilings and floors, windows and doors, and other building maintenance items as needed.
  • Perform equipment diagnosis for both electrical and mechanical issues.
  • Troubleshoot and repair all standard electrical/mechanical/plumbing components and detect developing equipment problems and correct them before they become major issues.
  • Troubleshoot PLC systems and other control systems (HVAC, Fire Panel, Security Alarms, etc.) and install wiring systems for power and control.
  • Install new equipment and understand technical manuals, read blueprints, purchase replacement parts necessary to make equipment repairs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and develop planned schedules. Inspect equipment operating conditions. Identify root causes of equipment problems.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations.

Qualifications

  • Understanding and experience in all phases of 110-480 volt system; three phase experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and maintaining them.
  • Basic plumbing knowledge, including operating shut off valves and dislodging clogs.
  • Ability to maintain courteous, cordial, cooperative, and professional interaction with diverse groups of co-workers, families, and members of the community.
  • Ability to manage relationships in a professional and respectful manner, promoting the core values of the organization.
  • Must be committed to consistent and on-time attendance for scheduled meetings and shifts.
  • Demonstrated integrity, character, and respect for the dignity of end users when dealing with stressful or challenging situations, receiving or recycling company property, and completing assigned tasks.
  • Able to remain motivated and driven to complete tasks independently, without daily task direction or direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated capacity to use a computerized maintenance work order system for documentation of incidents and communication with employees and tenants.
  • Must be able to use a smartphone, email, text, and complete electronic work orders.
  • Ability to work occasional non-traditional hours based on operational needs and scheduled events.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically capable of frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds or more as required.
  • Must be able to safely perform a wide range of maintenance tasks that involve standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, working from lifts, and operating in tight, confined, or hard-to-reach spaces.
  • Must possess the mobility, flexibility, and dexterity necessary to bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions and environmental settings.
  • Must be comfortable wearing and properly utilizing all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to established safety protocols at all times.
  • Must be capable of responding to maintenance emergencies and performing physically demanding work as needed to support facility operations.

Education & Experience

The ideal candidate will have some combination of:

  • Graduate of an industrial apprenticeship program or 2-year technical school with at least 5 years commercial/industrial experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience as a maintenance electrician/mechanic in the commercial/industrial field.
  • Other acceptable combination of industry standard certification or professional licensure and experience as determined by YWCA Tri-County Area on an individual basis.
  • Must be willing to submit to background checks, in accordance with local laws and regulations.
  • Must be willing to complete required trainings to remain in compliance with YW3CA's Early Education Center license including but not limited to Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification. Current Health Assessment and TB test.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with current auto insurance and reliable transportation — position may require travel between all YW3CA locations.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in an operations environment.
