About the Program

The Maintenance Technician Development Program is designed for individuals who want to gain the skills needed to earn their Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) licenses. The program requires enrollment in a FAR 147 certified program and provides mentorship, a defined path toward certification, and a career start with Horizon Air/Alaska Airlines. Participants sign an agreement to work for Horizon Air/Alaska Airlines for a minimum of 30 months upon completion.

Responsibilities

  • Currently enrolled and in good standing with an approved A&P school.
  • Quarterly check-ins with assigned mentor/leader.
  • Maintain effective communication with the company regarding curriculum progress.
  • Commit to a 2.5-year employment agreement with Horizon Air/Alaska Airlines post-program completion.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a certified FAR 147 FAA Airframe and Powerplant Program.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an A&P License within 90 days of graduation.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a valid passport allowing unrestricted travel to/from the U.S. without a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP).
  • Ability and willingness to enter and exit Canada without restrictions or a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) for maintenance work.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an airport AOA badge.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to consistently lift 70 lbs. and perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, and grasping.
  • Ability and willingness to operate ground support equipment, including movable turboways, forklifts, tow tractors, elevated boom lifts, and hoists.
  • Ability and willingness to work on elevated surfaces using stands, ladders, or other equipment.
  • Adaptability to work according to set procedures.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability and willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency in English communication.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
