About the role

Vanderlande is responsible for the Service & Maintenance of the Baggage Handling System at the Orlando International Airport (MCO). Maintenance Technicians I are the main responders to emergency situations, carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance at the mechanical and electrical level of the material handling system during dwell periods between flights and other non-operational hours.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain machinery and electrical equipment such as motors, electrical circuits, SICK ATR systems, baggage handling systems, and passenger boarding bridges in accordance with diagrams, electrical drawings, operational manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications, using hand tools and precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Exercise safe working practices at all times, complying with Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures.
  • Prepare and execute service calls, emergency maintenance, and corrective maintenance.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and follow up on corrective maintenance work orders.
  • Report service calls to management.
  • Advise and execute optimization of (sub) systems, consulting the supervisor, and propose improvements for the quality of the service process.
  • Analyze system performance.
  • Occasionally monitor the system from the Control Room.
  • Develop service-supporting tools and means.
  • Complete CMMS service reports, parts usage, and warranty records.
  • Research and request spare parts as required and keep track of inventory.
  • Work independently on preventive maintenance.
  • Identify problems in planning and tooling, providing input for improvements.
  • Independently correct standard faults.
  • Train, instruct, and guide mechanics.
  • Supervise all mechanics covered under the Vanderlande BHS O&M contract at any terminal at MCO, representing management when they are not present on-site and being responsible for operations.
  • Interface with the customer and explain any situation at hand.
  • Be responsible for any contingency plan for operational disruption or safety events.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of material handling experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of CMMS experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Good working knowledge of high and low-level control systems.

Schedule

Full-time position within a 24/7 operation; 3 shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or mid-shift). Flexibility is required, including overtime, weekend, and holiday work.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Work in secured baggage handling areas, repair stations, or on airfields, often under strict deadlines to maintain flight schedules.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching from ladders and scaffolds.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear, and frequently reach with hands and arms.
  • Very active position requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
  • Lifting parts and tools for extended periods and handling equipment such as conveyor systems.
  • Identifying and fixing mechanical problems with machinery, often working with greasy parts and tools in uncomfortable positions.
  • Exposure to the baggage handling system, mechanical parts, and vibration.
