Maintenance Technician
About the role
The Buffalo Zoo is seeking a Maintenance Technician who demonstrates mechanical aptitude and proficiency in one or more skilled service, maintenance, or building trades. The ideal candidate will be responsible for repairing various mechanical equipment, understanding building codes, and performing tasks such as carpentry, welding, and painting.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and perform routine repairs on Zoo structures, machinery, and plumbing fixtures.
- Carry out a variety of trade functions including carpentry, carpet/tile installation, small electrical projects, paint, masonry, plumbing, locksmith, auto repairs, and welding.
- Inspect and maintain all rides and other equipment on a regular basis.
- Perform daily maintenance, operations, and repair projects across Zoo grounds, buildings, and facilities.
- Handle construction projects and repairs using a variety of hand and power tools.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Associates degree or specialized training in construction-related fields preferred.
- Strong interest in one or more skilled service, maintenance, or building trades.
- Knowledge of building codes, structure repair, and mechanical repair.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- A safety-minded attitude is essential.

Benefits
This is a full-time, CSEA union, non-exempt hourly position. Benefits include health plan, HRA/HSA/FSA, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, dental, vision, 403B retirement plan, annual leave, holiday, and sick time benefits. Benefits are available the month following a 60-day worked probationary period review. Pay range is $22.52 - $27.96 per hour.
