Maintenance Technician
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues on plastics manufacturing equipment such as: Injection molding machines (hydraulic, electric, hybrid), Extrusion lines, Blow molding machines, Thermoformers, Robotics, pickers, and automated handling systems. Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to maximize machine uptime. Diagnose failures across electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems. Maintain and troubleshoot hot runner controllers, barrel heaters, heater bands, thermocouples, and temperature sensors.
Electrical Expertise
Install, modify, and repair electrical systems (480V/240V/120V, 3-phase) used in plastics equipment. Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, hydraulic diagrams, and PLC logic. Troubleshoot and repair servo motors, VFDs, relays, contractors, solenoids, and control panels. Support machine upgrades, line expansions, and the installation of new molding/extrusion equipment.
Production & Process Support
Respond quickly to equipment downtime to restore production with minimal disruption. Work closely with production staff to address recurring machine issues. Assist in machine startups, shutdowns, and equipment changeovers when needed. Document maintenance activities in the CMMS and recommend improvements for equipment reliability. Follow all safety protocols including lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), electrical safety, and machine guarding.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have any direct reports.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a plastics or similar manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of electrical systems including 3-phase industrial power and control circuits
- Experience with injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, or other plastics processing equipment
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, equipment manuals, and PLC ladder logic
- Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, heaters, and automation systems
- Proficient with diagnostic tools such as multimeters, meggers, IR cameras, and pressure/vacuum gauges
- Excellent problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work and communicate well with others, both internally and externally
- Attention to detail; must be able to follow instructions
- Ability to read a tape measure
- Strong understanding of both imperial and metric measurements with the ability to convert between both
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends based on business conditions
- Basic computer skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- State electrician license or journeyman certification
- Experience with PLC systems such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar
- Experience using a CMMS for work orders and maintenance planning
- Basic welding, machining, or fabrication skills
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Frequently required to talk, hear, walk, sit, and stand. Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl. Continually works near moving mechanical parts and may occasionally be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, heat, or toxic chemicals. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is moderate with occasional loud noise.
