Maintenance Technician

Location: New Boston, MI • Full-time

About the role

Responsible for preventative maintenance, equipment repair, and equipment installation.

Responsibilities

• Production Equipment Preventive Maintenance: Perform all scheduled mechanical and lubrication inspections; check each item for abnormal wear; check all oil levels in reservoirs and lubricators; inspect automatic oilers for proper flow; check chains, belts, slides for proper adjustment; inspect bearings, bushings, and shafts for excessive endplay or vibration; check all filters for restriction or damage; check all operator controls for proper function or excessive noise; complete paperwork documenting inspections or adjustments; generate work requests for any abnormal condition found.
• Support Equipment – Preventive Maintenance:
  • Forklifts: Assist with scheduled mechanical and lubrication inspections; check oil level and condition; check coolant level; inspect for oil or water leaks; check hoses for wear or damage; perform operational checks (lifts, brakes, steering); clean as needed (exterior, motor, radiator); complete all necessary paperwork for inspection or repair documentation.
  • Overhead Cranes: Assist with scheduled mechanical and lubrication inspections; check gearboxes for proper oil levels and oil condition; grease all lube points; inspect electrical controls and hardware for wear or improper operation; check hoist, trolley, and bridges for abnormal wear and adjust air gap to specification; inspect wire rope and all lift components for fatigue or stress, lubricate as needed.
• Building Area Preventive Maintenance – Overhead Doors: Perform scheduled maintenance; check lift mechanism for proper operation; adjust chains as needed; test safety switch for proper operation; inspect door tracks for excessive wear or damage; lubricate as needed; test all operator controls for proper function; document all inspections or repairs needed.
• Standby Electrical Generator: Perform all scheduled maintenance (oil level, water level, etc.); operate unit monthly and check for proper operation (engine temperature, output voltage, oil pressure, etc.); inspect battery charger operation and block heater condition.
• Preventive Maintenance Records, Maintenance Assistance Forms, Work Orders: Record all preventive maintenance performed in the appropriate manual; indicate any abnormal condition found or repairs made; list all work performed on Maintenance Assistance Forms and Work Orders; request changes to improve PM operations; ensure proper information is posted to all forms and work orders.
• Equipment Repairs: Troubleshoot and repair all equipment as necessary; communicate with production employees to obtain information on operational problems; relay repair information to Maintenance Operations Manager; ensure all repairs comply with manufacturer specifications; document any changes made to original equipment design; provide assistance to contractors for contracted-out repairs.
• Equipment Installation: Install equipment to manufacturer’s specifications; install electrical equipment and other machinery in proper areas; maintain Maintenance Operations Department machines and equipment; ensure installations conform to all local codes and requirements; all installations monitored by Maintenance Operations Manager.
• Equipment, Fixtures, Machine Accessory Fabrication: Fabricate equipment or production accessories as requested; have all designs approved by Maintenance Operations Manager.
• Environmental Management System: Serve as EMS Response Team member; maintain working knowledge of environmental management instructions and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned: On-call 24 hours, 7 days a week; authority to stop production if necessary to correct quality or safety problems.

Requirements

• Ability to juggle multiple tasks
• Ability to attend to detail and maintain accuracy
• Knowledge of tools used in fabrication and repair (welders, torches, measuring devices, general hand tools, etc.)
• Ability to communicate with other employees by verbal and written directions
• Clerical skills needed to document work completed
• Knowledge of machine hydraulic, electrical, and other basic control systems
• Knowledge of electrical test equipment used in machine troubleshooting and repair

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience as a Maintenance Repair Technician
• 4 years of High School or GED
