About the role
The Maintenance Technician reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and assists in maintaining the daily operation of HVAC systems. This is an essential staff position requiring flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Operates and services building mechanical HVAC equipment.
- Serves, repairs, and installs building service fixtures and equipment.
- Performs tasks related to plumbing, electrical, and general carpentry.
- Maintains preventive maintenance programs.
- Operates common hand and machine tools.
- Replaces ceiling tiles and grids.
- Moves, assembles, and repairs office equipment and furniture.
- Assists with inspections of fire alarm systems, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers.
- Assists with event setup and breakdown.
- Responds to emergency service calls.
- Participates in safety training.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- A.A.S. in Industrial Technology (carpentry, hvac, or electrical) preferred.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand, lift, climb ladders, and move from one area of the building to another.
- Strength and dexterity to operate hand and power tools.
- Adequate hearing and verbal abilities to communicate effectively.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Positive attitude and professional appearance.
Skills
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to use the scope of tools required in performing maintenance functions.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety practices common to building, maintenance, and construction.
- Knowledge of GHS safety requirements for handling toxic or hazardous materials.
- Ability to work well with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently to perform assigned duties.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with members of the college community.
- Knowledge of the practices, processes, and materials used in building maintenance and construction.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Skill in the use of hand tools or equipment.
- Well-grounded philosophy of honesty, integrity, and respect.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $XX.XX - $XXX.XX per hour. Salary is commensurate with experience.

The Maintenance Technician works a flexible schedule to support the mission of the college and the students of SMC. This may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
