Maintenance Technician

About the role

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of production equipment in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring quality standards and schedule adherence are maintained. This position works in a variety of areas such as packaging, roasting, and sanitation, while standing or walking for long periods of time. The role requires the ability to lift up to 100 pounds (with assistance), complete plant work orders, and perform routine preventative maintenance documentation (Redzone, CMMS).

Responsibilities

• Supports production by repairing operational and equipment issues as they occur.
• Trains personnel on repairs they can perform themselves if the issue recurs.
• Completes corrective work orders and items listed on the defect list.
• Completes preventive maintenance (PM) work orders.
• Keeps maintenance spaces (shop) and parts/equipment clean and organized.
• Maintains storeroom inventory (INV) and orders parts as needed.
• Completes work orders and Preventive Maintenance (PM) documentation (Redzone, CMMS).
• Maintains equipment bill of material (BOM) as assigned.
• Performs housekeeping and cleaning duties according to Company SSOP’s.
• Performs all tasks in a safe manner, adhering to Company work rules.
• Follows Company’s Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs) at all times.
• Meets Company’s expectations of its Basic Beliefs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in an automated manufacturing or distribution environment.
• Prior experience in a food manufacturing facility preferred but not required.
• General industrial maintenance experience in mechanical and electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and machine operation.
• Working knowledge of PLC logic and its use in manufacturing equipment.
• Proficiency in safety procedures, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.
• Ability to work in accordance with quality, safety, and sanitation standards, policies, and guidelines.
• Ability to work safely around food allergens such as tree nuts, peanuts, dairy, soy, and sesame.
• Ability to work with and around cleaning chemicals and perform sanitation duties.
• Ability to work safely around automated and semi-automated machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, GMPs, and general instructions.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Self-starter able to handle a busy workload and be productive working alone.
• Ability to work as part of a team, successfully communicating and cooperating with others.
• Reliable and dependable, with good attendance patterns.
• Basic computer skills and aptitude to work with computers.
• Basic math skills.
• Journeyman Millwright license or trade certificate preferred but not required.
• HACCP certification and familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) preferred but not required.
• Welding and metal fabrication knowledge (MIG, TIG, plasma cutting, lathe work) preferred but not required.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and verbal communication in English to comply with food safety laws and regulations (FDA, USDA/FSIS).

Physical Requirements

• Stand, bend, reach, and kneel for extended periods frequently.
• Stand for 8–10 hours.
• Walk up and down stairs frequently.
• Lift up to 50 pounds routinely and up to 100 pounds with assistance occasionally.
• Able and willing to work at heights up to 50 feet.
• Wear proper PPE (personal protective equipment) provided by the company.

Work Environment

• Work near moving mechanical parts.
• High noise levels may require wearing personal protective equipment.
• Indoor food manufacturing setting with exposure to food production areas, cleaning chemicals, and varying temperatures (hot and cold).

Pay

$32.00 to $38.00 per hour, depending on experience, plus an additional $2.00/hour night shift premium.

Schedule

Monday through Thursday, 4x10-hour shifts (8:00 PM – 6:30 AM), with weekday or weekend overtime as needed.
