Maintenance Technician

Primary Duties

• Upkeep and repair of all mechanical and electrical equipment at all Lesaffre plants on the Red Star campus including Red Star Yeast, Bio Springer, Pilot Plant, and the Blending Facility.
• Maintenance of plant motors, motor control centers, control panels, VFD units, air conditioning units, refrigeration units, office and plant lighting, transformers, motor controls, capacitor bank systems, and other equipment as assigned.
• Maintain plant instruments including pH probes, conductivity probes, temperature probes, flow meters, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, and oxygen probes, etc.
• Perform daily rounds throughout the plant and check critical instruments or mechanical equipment for proper operation.
• Weekly preventive maintenance on assigned equipment as scheduled by the Maintenance Supervisor or his designee when absent.
• Fill out report sheets on PM tasks that have been assigned.
• Work on electrical upgrade projects and equipment modifications that may involve the construction of control panels, running of reasonable conduit routes, and pulling conductors.
• Troubleshoot electrical equipment with the use of PLC interface software.
• Maintain and repair all mechanical equipment, to include pumps, compressors, blowers, separators, automated packaging equipment, etc.
• Maintain and repair piping systems, to include but not limited to valves, fittings, hoses, etc.
• Aid other technicians with inspections and troubleshooting of the plant equipment making necessary repairs as requested.
• Complete and document all necessary preventive maintenance work through the Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Communicate progress on assigned duties and general topics through various software programs including, but not limited to, MAPCON and MS Outlook.

Secondary Duties

• Special projects as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor or Lead Maintenance Technician.

Qualifications

• Understand and use complicated test equipment for diagnosis of hard to find problems with electrical circuits and equipment.
• Read and understand PLC logic and electrical diagrams or schematics.
• Locate, read, and comprehend equipment manuals and use the troubleshooting guide in manuals to resolve problems.
• Use a computer on a daily basis.
• Use basic mechanical skills and knowledge of mechanical systems.
• Operate forklifts, man lifts, production equipment and power tools.
• Handle critical decision-making responsibilities and deal with mental stress from occasional extended worked hours outside of regularly scheduled shift.

Education And/or Experience

• Degree in Industrial Maintenance, related field, or applicable apprenticeship program required.
• Equivalent work experience in field with a minimum of 3 to 5 years required.
• Experience working in an Industrial Maintenance setting preferred.

Environmental, Safety, Quality, And Legal Requirements

• Must understand and follow all environmental, safety, quality, and legal regulations for the area in which they work.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

• Ability to be forklift certified required.

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, using hands, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, lifting up to 100 pounds, sitting, using computer, using specialized equipment, exposure to electrical shock, wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, vibration.
