About the role

The Maintenance Technician at the Village of Oakland Woods, Pontiac Michigan, plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of life for seniors through the installation, repair, and maintenance of various facilities and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect grounds, facilities, and equipment routinely to determine necessity of repairs or maintenance.
  • Operate, test, maintain, and repair mechanical devices, machinery, equipment, and tools.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure smooth operation of machines, efficient building systems, and proper building conditions.
  • Maintain and repair specialized equipment and machinery.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine solutions, consulting repair manuals or parts catalogs as needed.
  • Install, assemble, repair, and maintain electrical and gas appliances, equipment, systems, fixtures, lights, electronic components, plumbing systems, and fixtures.
  • Paint or repair surfaces, trim, cut, weed, and plant to maintain grounds and ensure their appearance and safety.
  • Provide landscaping and snow removal services to ensure safety and appearance.
  • Fabricate, install, repair, maintain, and replace structural items like counters, cabinets, partitions, floor and ceiling tile, gutters, and roofs.
  • Prepare assigned areas for various activities and events by clearing and/or rearranging furniture, setting up equipment, removing trash, etc.
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours and looking for hazards.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies following safety procedures.
  • Input work requests and detailed information in an electronic system.
  • Install equipment to improve the energy or operational efficiency of buildings.
  • Attend and participate in all appropriate meetings and training opportunities to stay updated on current information and skill development.
  • Follow established policies and procedures, including Presbyterian Villages policies and procedures, Safety policies and procedures, Federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • One to two years related experience in maintenance.
  • Computer skills, including ability to operate a computer and use maintenance software.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Certification in electrical, plumbing, or HVAC (plus).
  • On-call for maintenance emergencies.

Physical Demands

  • Stand, Walk, Climb, Squat/Kneel, Bend, Handle/Finger, Lift/Carry (50 lbs minimum, occasionally), Push/Pull (50 lbs minimum, up to 100 lbs occasionally).
  • Visual (Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth Perception).
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Qualifications

Experience working in senior housing industry is preferred.
