About the role
Presbyterian Villages of Michigan, a faith-based, premier nonprofit organization providing senior living and services in Michigan, invites you to join our team as the Full Time Maintenance Technician at Lynn Street Manor, Onaway, Michigan. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, repairing and/or maintaining machinery, equipment, physical structures, building systems and outside environment. This role assists with the overall upkeep of the community and grounds and provides maintenance support in a professional and confidential manner.
Responsibilities
- Inspect grounds, facilities, and equipment routinely to determine necessity of repairs or maintenance.
- Inspect, operate, test, maintain and repair mechanical devices, machinery, equipment and tools.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
- Maintain and repair specialized equipment and machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
- Install, assemble, repair and maintain electrical and gas appliances, equipment, systems, fixtures, lights, electronic components, plumbing systems and fixtures.
- Paint or repair surfaces, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, or other parts of building structures.
- Maintain landscaping (trimming, cutting, weeding, and planting) and perform snow removal (plowing, shoveling, and salting) to ensure their appearance and safety for employees, residents and visitors.
- Fabricate, install, repair, maintain and replace structural items such as counters, cabinets, partitions, floor and ceiling tile, gutters, roofs, etc.
- Prepare assigned areas for various activities and events by clearing and/or rearranging furniture, setting up equipment, removing trash, etc.
- Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and looking for hazards.
- Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies following safety procedures.
- Input work requests and detailed information in electronic system.
- Install equipment to improve the energy or operational efficiency of buildings.
- Attend and participate in all appropriate meetings and training opportunities in order to keep informed on current information and skill development.
- Follow established policies and procedures including but not limited to, Presbyterian Villages policies and procedures, Safety policies and procedures, Federal, state and local regulations.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- One to two years related experience in maintenance required.
- Ability to operate a computer and operate maintenance software.
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required.
- Certification in electrical, plumbing, or HVAC a plus.
- On-call for maintenance emergencies required.
Physical demands
- Stand, walk, climb, squat/kneel, bend.
- Handling/fingering and lift/carry 50 lbs. minimum (occasionally); push/pull 50 lbs. minimum (up to 100 lbs. occasionally).
- Vision (near, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception).
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
