Maintenance Technician

About the role

The incumbent works as a member of the Maintenance Department, providing technical assistance to Maintenance, Engineering, Production, and Quality Control Departments in resolving equipment or process problems of an immediate or developmental nature. They assist the Maintenance Supervisor with coordination, job oversight, work assignment, design, engineering, technical troubleshooting, training, problem analysis, and programming as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical assistance to Maintenance in resolving day-to-day maintenance or production problems involving production equipment.
• Maintains an up-to-date basic knowledge of all plant equipment and processes.
• Investigates equipment development problems and proposes solutions; initiates methods of accomplishing solutions if approved by the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Provides input to others assigned to accomplish solutions.
• Writes work orders and procedures to correct malfunctions or improve equipment or processes, both short-term and long-term.
• Provides and assists with technical training to Maintenance and Production employees on new or modified equipment.
• Trains Maintenance Technicians 2 & 3 on plant technologies, including PLCs, servos, robotics, AC drives, etc.
• Works with Maintenance, Engineering, Production, and Purchasing to determine new products and equipment to be tested; helps establish evaluation parameters and assists in testing.
• Recommends spare parts, instrumentation, and supplies; advises the Storeroom Supervisor on stock levels and inventory adjustments.
• May specify, design, or program maintenance-related items; assists in determining standards for equipment, components, design, and programming.
• Keeps software, parts, and documentation up to date.
• Performs general maintenance work as assigned and participates in Maintenance, PIT, and other relevant plant teams and meetings.
• Assigns and provides job oversight when the Maintenance Supervisor is not in the plant.

Requirements

• High School degree required; two-year technical degree in Industrial Maintenance or related area preferred.
• Two years of previous maintenance technician, industrial electrician, or related experience required; five years preferred.
• Excellent demonstrated technical skills and knowledge in the maintenance of glass fabricating equipment, including quality and safety awareness.
• Skills in PLC and robotics programming, computer proficiency, machine electronics and mechanics, schematics and drawing reading, pneumatics, instrumentation, electric drives, and plant power systems.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with employees at all levels within the plant and with external stakeholders.
• Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work productively with minimum supervision.

• Available for call-ins on shifts or weekends to assist with technical problems.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to work a rotating day/night schedule.
• Must be able to safely operate a forklift.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
• Must follow all posted security procedures and PPE requirements.
