About the Role
Maintains the emergency power system to ensure availability of power to all entrances, exits, fire detection alarms and extinguishing equipment, and life support systems in the event electrical supplies are interrupted.
Responsibilities
- Maintains, adjusts, and repairs all essential equipment (e.g., boiler room equipment, nursing unit/medication room refrigerators, refrigerator/freezer, laundry equipment) in safe operating condition.
- Maintains, adjusts, and repairs all facility general equipment as well as any resident equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, beds, furniture) under proper guidance as necessary.
- Ensures the availability of portable water to essential areas in the event of loss of normal water supply.
- Checks facility hot water system on a regular basis to evaluate water temperatures in essential locations of the facility.
- Maintains, adjusts, and repairs the hot water system to eliminate hazards to facility residents, staff, and others.
- Maintains, adjusts, and repairs the resident call system to ensure a functioning communication system from rooms, toilets, and bathing areas.
- Inspects the physical plant for any signs of rodents or pests. In cooperation with the Housekeeping Department, implements an effective pest control system to eliminate any rodents and pests.
- Maintains, adjusts, and repairs adequate and comfortable lighting levels appropriate for tasks without glare, supporting independent functioning and task performance of residents.
- Maintains, adjusts, and repairs the facility ventilation system to provide good air movement with acceptable temperature, humidity, and odor levels, eliminate drafts, and provide adequate smoke exhaust.
- Cooperates with other departments to identify and accommodate individual resident needs and preferences.
- Communicates directly with residents, families, and legal representatives to identify approaches that will protect and promote resident rights.
- Maintains furniture and equipment appropriate to individual needs and ability.
- Maintains current skills and knowledge through continuing education and applies information to job responsibilities.
- Participates in fire and disaster drills. In the event of an emergency, carries out assigned duties to assure resident safety.
