Maintenance Technician

About the role

This position supports the mission of the organization by ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for staff, kids, and visitors. The Maintenance Technician performs routine maintenance, responds to repair requests, and assists with preventative maintenance programs across all agency properties. All New Horizons’ staff are expected to study, practice, and operate within the New Horizons’ Philosophy of Keeping Kids First, ensuring every decision and action meets the highest need of the individual child.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with other personnel, service providers, contractors, and professionals.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure proper operation and safety.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests, work orders, and emergency repairs.
  • Conduct minor plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry repairs as needed.
  • Maintain agency vehicles, tools, and equipment to assure safe and proper working condition.
  • Maintain well-manicured and safe grounds and facilities.
  • Assist with safety and compliance inspections in accordance with agency policies and state regulations.
  • Support the setup, relocation, or repair of office furniture and fixtures.
  • Monitor inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment; notify supervisor when reordering is needed.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders and inspection logs.
  • Coordinate with vendors or contractors when outside services are required.
  • Be available for after-hours emergencies, as needed.
  • Promote and maintain a clean, organized, secure, and safe work environment.
  • Send and receive emails, including updating leadership on project completion.
  • Assist with any needs of the water plant, lift station, and wastewater treatment plant.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by New Horizons’ leadership.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in building maintenance, construction, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of general repair techniques in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, diagrams, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate a schedule and prioritize a job list.
  • Must be able to work within a set budget while performing quality workmanship.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in various indoor and outdoor environments, including residential, administrative, and recreational settings. May be exposed to varying temperatures, dust, noise, and occasional hazards related to maintenance activities. May be required to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, to respond to facility needs or emergencies.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Must be able to visually inspect work and identify potential issues.
