Maintenance Technician
About the Role
Morris Packaging is a manufacturer of sustainable, flexible packaging products such as bags, pouches, and rollstock. We provide end-to-end packaging solutions, including design, printing, warehousing, and logistics support. This role is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing equipment by observing mechanical devices in operation and listening for problems.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and control downtime by informing production workers of routine preventative maintenance techniques.
- Build assemblies of company assets and install as needed.
- Install new equipment according to manufacturer specifications and management requirements.
- Design, implement, and manage preventative maintenance programs for all mechanical equipment and tools.
- Install, maintain, repair, adjust, troubleshoot, and inspect equipment and tools.
- Perform daily safety and functionality inspections of all machinery.
- Review the need for and request tools, equipment, and supplies necessary to perform duties.
- Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level and anticipating needs.
- Comply with all company policies, including those outlined in the Employee Handbook, Safety Manual, and Safe Quality Foods documents.
Requirements
- 3 to 6 years of industrial maintenance or similar environment performing comparable tasks.
- PLC experience preferred, but not mandatory.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude.
- Familiarity with electrical aspects and troubleshooting electronics.
- Ability to read blueprints and assembly instructions provided by manufacturers and our engineering department.
- Independent/self-starter and willing to perform other related duties as required.
- Forklift certification.
- Able to work overtime as required.
- Execute with verbal work instructions.
- Excellent communication and comprehension skills.

- Understanding of manufacturing process and control systems (a plus).
- Packaging industry experience (a plus).

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be primarily in our climate-controlled facility. The plant floor is subject to vibration and equipment noise, leading to a loud environment. The employee is frequently exposed to:
- Moving mechanical parts.
- Outside conditions, tight spaces, cleaning solvents, and heights.
This position involves moderate to high demand for tight deadlines and moderate interruption in workflow due to product changeovers.
Physical Demands
- Continuous (6 or more hours per day) bending, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, reaching, lifting, and grasping.
- Continuous (6 or more hours per day) talking, listening, teaching, and repetitive motion (hand/wrist movement).
- Continuous (6 or more hours per day) standing and walking.
- Frequent (1 to 3 hours per day) work in a stooped position.
- Good eyesight and normal hearing.
- Ability to move and lift objects, frequently up to 50 lbs.
Schedule
This is a full-time position. Days, nights, and hours may vary depending on assigned shift and production requirements. This position may require significant work hours beyond the normal workday based on business cycle or customer volume demands. Travel should not be required.
Pay
The pay range for this role is $26 - $30 USD per hour (Minnesota).
