Maintenance Technician

About the Role

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for managing mechanical reliability for the plant. Supports the Plant and Production Manager with all aspects of mechanical maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all equipment to meet or exceed company established OEE expectations and customer quality expectations.
• Follow Lockout/Tag out Policy.
• Proactively address unsafe conditions and inefficiencies on production equipment.
• Process production equipment and maintain documentation to support process changes.
• Perform maintenance tasks as outlined by Maintenance Manager.
• Use power tool equipment safely to avoid injury or harm.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance tasks.
• Evaluate operator checklists and comments to address production inefficiencies.
• Ensure equipment is clean and in “showroom condition” after maintenance.
• Continually evaluate equipment for improvement areas and tag components for repair or replacement.
• Perform changeovers with limited downtime.
• Ensure production equipment is in safe and efficient operation after changeovers.
• Perform building maintenance as directed.
• Maintain records for SAP parts management and notify when parts inventory is low.
• Complete documentation for work orders.
• Coordinate with Production Manager on equipment training and employee development.
• Promote good housekeeping habits to ensure plant appearance exceeds expectations.
• Repair and troubleshoot all plant production equipment (blow molding, injection molding, extrusion, and associated equipment).
• Support equipment installation and ensure machines, wiring, or programs meet specifications.
• Identify and resolve complex problems with mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Understand machine processing and recipe management.
• Identify appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
• Work with vendors and/or contractors as required.
• Implement operational improvements (spoilage, downtime, line speeds, etc.).
• Communicate problems, progress, and continuous improvement ideas to management and staff.
• Comply with company safety policies, GMP practices, and Global Food Safety practices.
• Perform other duties or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma (or GED/High School Certification); Technical School Certification preferred.
• 3-5 years of relevant manufacturing experience in plastics technology or a similar technical area.
• Ability to clearly communicate technical system issues.
• Strong mechanical maintenance experience and knowledge of hand and power tools.
• Understanding of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Good working knowledge of computer systems, including MS Office and SAP.
• Hands-on working approach.
• Ability to work independently, identify problems, and implement improvements.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects with limited supervision.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

Skills

• Ability to remain stationary, move safely in a manufacturing area, and ascend/descend ladders or stairs.
• Ability to position self to work on manufacturing equipment.
• Visual acuity to read information, troubleshoot machinery, and read documents.
• Ability to frequently move objects weighing up to 50-75 pounds.
• Ability to work in very hot or very cold conditions.
• Ability to drive a forklift and achieve certification.
