About the Role

The maintenance technician is responsible for a wide variety of tasks within the maintenance department, including installation, repair, maintenance (daily and preventative), and assessment of piping, pumps, equipment, and other fixed plant assets. This role involves both physical work and computer applications, as well as the ability to read and interpret legal and technical information. The technician may also conduct hands-on and classroom training.

Responsibilities

  • Properly lubricate, clean, and repair assigned plant/shop equipment as per routine schedule.
  • Provide a basic assessment of general equipment condition and report perceived problems to the proper authority.
  • Communicate issues clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; look for ways to improve and promote quality; monitor own work to ensure quality.
  • Properly identify and demonstrate the basic use of common mechanical shop tools and equipment.
  • Maintain housekeeping throughout the plant.
  • Interact with other personnel to maintain safe, efficient operation of the plant.
  • Operate numerous plant machinery as needed to move supplies or products and/or clean at the facility.
  • Assist as a laborer for expansion projects, including duties such as helping with conduit, piping, and wire pulls.
  • Assist in general maintenance of the north and south plant facilities as needed.
  • Perform seasonal yard work, including mowing and weed eating.
  • Complete other assignments or projects as requested by the manager.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Maintenance experience preferred.
  • Logical and practical thinker.
  • Experience working with others.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Skills & Abilities

  • Computer Skills: Basic computer skills, including navigating a web browser, following online instructions, typing, and using a mouse.
  • Customer Service Skills: Meet internal and external commitments, respond promptly to customer needs, and solicit customer feedback to improve service.
  • Work Ethic: Dependable, trustworthy, truthful, and credible in the workplace. Display a sincere desire to provide service or assistance, follow instructions, and take responsibility for own actions. Show a commitment to doing the best job possible.
  • Physical Abilities:
    • Lift and carry 50 pounds in various packaging.
    • Tip and move 55-gallon drums, weighing up to 600 pounds, with the use of a drum dolly.
    • Read product and chemical names.
    • Detailed oriented; must be able to proofread documents.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and in an office environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to:

  • Wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Fumes or airborne particles.
  • Traffic.
  • Toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Risk of electrical shock.
  • Vibration.

  • Fluently read, write, and speak in English.
  • Adhere to guidelines, policies, and procedures as described in the company handbook.
  • Adhere to the company’s Drug and Alcohol policy and submit to random drug testing as a condition of employment.
