Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

Howmet Aerospace in Branford, CT is hiring a highly motivated and energetic candidate to join their maintenance team. The Branford facility focuses on producing jet engine components for mission-critical performance and efficiency in aerospace and defense applications.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical facility maintenance
  • Preventative maintenance (PM)
  • Equipment upgrades
  • New system installations
  • Monitor outside contractor maintenance and new equipment/system installation activities
  • Absorb spare component inventories
  • Implement TPM initiatives and follow Corporate Environmental Health and Safety programs
  • Perform daily inspections on facility equipment and systems
  • Inspect and maintain facility dust collection systems
  • Inspect and maintain furnace systems
  • Inspect and maintain Met Lab equipment
  • Inspect and maintain HVAC fan and filter systems
  • Inspect and maintain emergency lighting, power cords/strips, and fire extinguishers
  • Inspect and maintain part washing systems, air compressors, compressed air dryers, holding tanks, and evaporators
  • Locate and rectify equipment issues with maintenance supervision
  • Report potential equipment failures and recommend measures for correction and prevention
  • Document maintenance and PM actions in the maintenance database
  • Develop PM and equipment repair tool kits
  • Perform PMs on Low Temp furnace doors and track
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools to perform repairs and PMs
  • Work with the maintenance team to develop work instructions for standard and non-standard maintenance activities
  • (B4’s and JSA’s)
  • Assist in furnace surveys, monitor and control thermal couple needs of furnaces, and assist in specified calibration assignments
  • Estimate time and materials needed to repair issues/breakdowns
  • Recommend changes in PM procedures and practices to reduce equipment downtime

Qualifications

  • Minimum Two (2) years of experience in general maintenance with an emphasis on mechanical, electrical and/or plumbing
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with Environmental Health and Safety training in Lock out/Tagout/Verify, scissor lift certification, NFPA 70E, and electrical
  • Plumbing including pipe threading, soldering, and proper use of fittings
  • Mechanical skills involving working on motorized equipment and drives, structural assembles and installs
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules and procedures, maintenance work instructions, and documented equipment specifications
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to perform basic computer operations in the maintenance database, excel spreadsheets, and Word documents
  • Ability to assist in developing and maintaining critical spare parts inventories in the maintenance area
  • Follows all established safety requirements while performing maintenance duties and stops to seek help if questions arise

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Rarely sitting
  • Continual walking, bending, and standing
  • Occasional crouching, pushing/pulling carrying, lifting, and climbing
  • Ability to operate a scissor lift and boom lift
