Maintenance Technician
About the role
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing machinery and equipment examinations to troubleshoot for defects and visual wear in operation. Duties include dismantling devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, installing new parts, performing electrical and motor testing, and conducting bench work and functional testing of rebuilt and modified machines.
Responsibilities
- Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts
- Install all new parts in compliance with set company standards
- Perform electrical and motor testing; fuse continuity checks; voltage/resistance/current relationships
- Conduct all necessary bench work, functional testing of rebuilt machines and modified machines by checking performance and making necessary or desirable adjustments and changes
- Participate in Hazardous Material, Hazardous Waste handling and management efforts, labeling waste storage containers, and dispensing chemicals to employees
- Report major machine or possible production problems to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or lead and/or department manager
- Answer all service calls and make necessary repairs without supervision
- Makes sound judgment calls in emergency situations
- Follows Managers/Supervisor/Leads instructions regarding production priorities schedule
- Maintain appropriate down-time and changeover log sheets
- Performs preventative maintenance as per area assigned
- Responsible for the manufacture of safe, legal, and quality product
- Attends all company safety meetings and trainings
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to stand/walk on concrete floors
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs
- Frequent kneeling, twisting of the back, and climbing, along with frequent use of both hands, is also required
- Reaching at, above and below shoulder level is continuous
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Technical school a plus
- 3 to 6 years related experience and/or training
- Experience in the maintenance and troubleshooting of production equipment required
- Trained in basic HACCP and pre-requisite programs relevant to area of responsibilities, chemical handling, code of safe practices, etc
Skills
- Interpret and apply measurement data from mechanical drawings
- Repair and fabricate metal parts by operating mechanical equipment
- Assemble parts into sub assemblies or complete units as required
