Maintenance Technician

About the Role

The Maintenance Technician performs maintenance, preventative maintenance, repairs, and/or overhauls equipment and related plumbing, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components within the facility. This role reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and ensures adherence to Balchem quality and safety standards. Flexibility to work 2nd or 3rd shift is required.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment according to operation guidelines, including safety procedures.
• Monitor equipment operation and understand processes.
• Record and maintain accurate data on required documents.
• Ensure all paperwork is complete, accurate, and timely, complying with Company standards.
• Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly work setting by completing assigned cleaning tasks.
• Observe safety and security procedures, report unsafe conditions, and take appropriate action beyond guidelines.
• Attend work, meetings, and training sessions on time.
• Participate in all Company-sponsored training events, including safety training and annual sessions for personal growth and development.
• Become proficient in production and safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain a flexible attitude toward improvement and change.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience in a food processing plant is strongly preferred.
• Sanitary pipe welding experience preferred (essential for Level 2).
• Experience with distributed control systems preferred (essential for Level 2).
• Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Proficiency in computer programs.
• Adherence to all Company policies and procedures, including personnel, safety, and equipment maintenance.
• Proficiency in production and safety policies (e.g., accident/injury reporting, bloodborne pathogens, confined spaces, emergency evacuation, equipment operation/maintenance, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, personal protective equipment).

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or College Degree (preferably in electromechanical or mechatronics); 2-3 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong motivation, organization, time management, documentation, and communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task and prioritize.
• Ability to utilize common sense and skills in completing responsibilities and operating equipment in compliance with Company procedures.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions, operation manuals, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting guides.
• Strong work ethic (punctual, dependable, and trustworthy).
• Ability to write simple correspondence and pass required examinations for essential job functions.
• Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.
• Proven troubleshooting skills in electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Building maintenance skills such as concrete repair, plumbing, and HVAC experience are helpful.
• Steam boiler and plant air compressor system experience is helpful.
