Job Summary
The Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting manufacturing operations by performing routine and emergency maintenance tasks on food processing equipment. This includes electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic repairs, preventative maintenance, equipment installations, and facility upkeep. The technician will work independently and in collaboration with other team members to ensure equipment operates at optimal efficiency while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
Job Duties
- Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production and facility equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues on motors, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, chillers, and hot water systems.
- Read and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics, block diagrams, and flow charts.
- Execute equipment installations and upgrades as needed.
- Conduct industrial welding, preferably stainless TIG.
- Maintain compliance with safety and food industry regulations (OSHA, EPA, FDA, etc.).
- Communicate effectively with production staff and other team members.
- Accurately complete maintenance documentation and logs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong knowledge and troubleshooting skills in electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and flow charts.
- Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controls (PLC).
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems.
- Industrial welding proficiency (TIG welding preferred).
- Understanding of HAZMAT, MSDS, and safety regulations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus.
- Flexibility and adaptability in work assignments.
Education and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of food safety practices and OSHA standards.
- Technical training or certifications in industrial maintenance (preferred but not required).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in various positions for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and carry materials up to required weight (typically 50 lbs or more).
- Ability to work at heights (using ladders, lifts, and on rooftops).
- Capability to work in confined spaces.
- Manual dexterity to operate tools and machinery safely and effectively.
Job Environment
- Fast-paced food processing and manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to loud noises, wet/humid conditions, and varying temperatures.
- Interaction with machinery, tools, and moving mechanical parts.
- Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be available for shift work, weekends, or overtime based on production needs.
