Maintenance Technician- 3rd Shift

About the role

This position keeps the box plant running by reducing unplanned downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting production throughput. The role ensures maintenance work is completed safely, on time, and done right the first time, while helping prevent repeat failures and maintaining quality standards across all equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work; perform all tasks safely and follow all safety procedures without fail.
  • Follow all safety and company policies and procedures including maintaining good housekeeping, reporting any issues, accidents or incidents immediately; complete online safety training each month as assigned.
  • Understand, execute, and abide by all safety policies, practices and procedures.
  • Comprehend equipment technical documents, including construction drawings, shop drawings, blueprints, plans, schematics and specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and repair programmable logic controllers (PLCs), A/C and D/C drives and the corresponding control systems.
  • Use maintenance software programs.
  • Perform regular maintenance such as lubrication, cleaning and preventative tasks.
  • Perform buildings and grounds maintenance, including fire systems, HVAC, emergency light systems, etc.
  • Perform and assist in project work.
  • Train other team members to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Move materials, equipment and parts using various equipment (forklifts, hand carts, winches, hoists, scissor lifts, etc.).
  • Identify an issue’s root cause(s) and collaborate with the team to ensure issues are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Identify, order and communicate equipment, supplies and parts requirements.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in order to operate at OEM speeds and optimal uptime.
  • Thoroughly complete all documentation and paperwork.
  • Consistently adhere to company policies and procedures, including safety, housekeeping, and good manufacturing practices.
  • Maintain and repair a variety of machines and systems used in the production of corrugated paper boxes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work center that meets company 5S standards.
  • Monitor, evaluate and adjust plant equipment and instrumentation.
  • Record maintenance problems and repairs in the log system.
  • Assist in the set-up and tear down of production lines.
  • Participate in collections system maintenance, repairs, and installation.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Work Order Completion Rate – % of assigned work orders completed on time (Target: 90–95%)
  • Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) – Average time to fix equipment after a breakdown (Target: trending down)
  • PM Completion Rate – % of preventive maintenance completed on schedule (Target: 95–100%)

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 3 years box plant experience
  • Corrugator/Converting experience a plus
  • Bilingual in Mandarin or Spanish is a plus

Skills

  • Mechanical & Electrical Repair Skills – Bearings, belts, gearboxes, motors, sensors, and basic controls
  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics – Ability to read prints, isolate faults, and identify root cause quickly
  • Tools & Equipment Use – Proficient with hand tools, precision tools, meters, and maintenance systems (CMMS)
