Maintenance Technician (2nd shift)

About the Role

Repairs and maintains machinery, mechanical equipment, and production machines under constant supervision.

Responsibilities

• Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
• Disassembles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
• Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
• Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
• Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
• Repairs or replaces defective parts in hydraulic equipment such as valves, motors, cylinders, and pumps; conditioning equipment such as grinding and abrasive blast machines; mobile hydraulic equipment; and other plant equipment as designated by supervisor.
• Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
• Lubricates and cleans parts.
• Starts devices to test their performance.
• Performs daily inspection and record keeping of various pieces of plant equipment.
• Monitors equipment operating conditions and keeps records of those conditions.
• Uses hand tools.

Requirements

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, mechanical drawings, manufacturer's literature, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of supervisors or managers.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Qualifications

• Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or two to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• U.S. citizenship is required (no dual citizenship or other nationalities permitted).

Physical Demands

• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.
• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
• Regularly exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration where LOTO and PPE must be used.
• Occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Work Environment

• Manufacturing and laboratory environments.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
