About the role
TerraPower is seeking to hire a Maintenance & Technical Training Instructor (Engineering) to develop and execute M&T training programs for the Natrium Demonstration Project (NDP). The role involves integrating and coordinating with various departments and external organizations to ensure training programs comply with company standards, NRC regulations, and other codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develops Maintenance & Technical (M&T) training processes, programs, and procedures for a newly established training department.
- Ensures compliance with company standards, NRC regulations, INPO accreditation criteria, and other codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Develops and executes a strategy for training program initial accreditation.
- Uses the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) to develop new high-quality training curriculum for maintenance and technical personnel.
- Revises training programs to maintain instructional and technical accuracy based on plant design changes, modifications to plant procedures, and changes in plant processes.
- Participates actively in the Training Curriculum Review Committee.
- Collaborates with management, the emergency response organization, and other organizations in the development and improvement of training programs.
- Prepares trainee examination material and trainee evaluations for classroom, laboratory, OJT, and simulator environments, as appropriate.
- Prepares processes for training performance evaluations, trainee counseling sessions, and individualized training programs.
- Incorporates information gained from INPO Significant Operating Experience Reports, NRC Circulars, Bulletins, and Information Notices, plant design changes, plant procedure changes and revisions, new regulations, and training effectiveness reports into the training program and various training material.
- Participates in NRC, INPO, and management audits, and prepares responses to audit findings.
- Develops and maintains knowledge of plant design, plant operations, disciplinary skills and techniques, commensurate with the responsibility to develop effective, high-quality training.
- Supervises the collection and maintenance of auditable training records and reports required to document training program activities.
- Assists Training Management in establishing department goals, and cost estimates that result in budgeted activities for the assigned area including specific project or subject matter areas as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum Qualifications (Engineering – Mechanical, Electrical, or I&C): Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, I&C, Nuclear, or closely related discipline applicable to nuclear power plant systems) required; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of commercial nuclear power plant experience in plant engineering, systems engineering, or design engineering.
- Demonstrated mastery of technical and analytical skills, with extensive subject matter knowledge applied to the analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation, and modification of Maintenance & Technical (M&T) training programs using a Systematic Approach to Training (SAT).
- Experience translating engineering design, system functions, calculations, vendor documentation, and licensing basis information into effective training materials for maintenance and technical personnel.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to develop technically accurate training content and supporting documentation.
- Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex engineering concepts to varied audiences.
- Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to training excellence, technical accuracy, and regulatory alignment.
- Demonstrated trust, integrity, and professionalism, with the ability to communicate openly, collaborate effectively, and foster teamwork across engineering, maintenance, operations, and training organizations.
- Clear understanding of how individual engineering and training decisions impact regulatory compliance, public confidence, and overall organizational performance.
- Proven ability to adapt to emergent changes driven by evolving plant design, engineering assumptions, procedures, schedules, and challenges associated with the design, construction, and commissioning of a first-of-a-kind nuclear power plant.
