About the Role
Join the team at UNC Charlotte Marriott as a Maintenance Engineer 2, where you'll be the backbone of our operations—troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining our 226-room hotel and 24,000 sq ft of versatile meeting space. Responsibilities
- Carry a portable radio and stay in constant communication with the central base station.
- Respond to all engineering service calls, prioritizing guest requests.
- Maintain hotel equipment in an efficient, safe, and accident-free manner.
- Perform all essential functions of a Maintenance Technician 1, plus specialized skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC.
- Handle guest requests courteously and efficiently.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on all hotel equipment, including kitchen, laundry, boiler, plumbing, pool, HVAC, electrical, and guest rooms.
- Monitor and maintain all engineering functions during off-hours (e.g., weekends and evenings).
- Respond to emergency situations, including fire alarms, bomb threats, disasters, and power failures; notify appropriate authorities.
- Conduct rounds of the hotel property to ensure everything is in working order.
- Clean and maintain all equipment and work areas.
- Complete maintenance requests, log equipment and meter readings, and document parts used or needed for purchase.
- Handle elevator breakdowns.
- Maintain records of the Rooms Preventive Maintenance Program and the Request Program.
- Complete work order request forms daily and in a timely manner.
- Report any unsafe conditions to leadership.
Requirements
- High school diploma, plus two years of trade school or equivalent training in building maintenance/construction.
- Minimum four years of experience in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, or building maintenance.
- Basic working knowledge in general plumbing, refrigeration, air conditioning, electrical systems, boilers, bathroom fixtures, tiling, painting (prep to finish), basic carpentry, and groundskeeping.
Physical Demands
- Ability to read written communiqués, LED read-outs, meters, and computer screens.
- Ability to pull levers, rotate knobs, work with arms raised above head, and handle/assemble small parts using basic hand and power tools.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal/written instructions, communicate effectively (verbally and in writing), utilize analytical thought processes, and understand technical/mechanical instruction.
- Must be highly organized and able to communicate courteously with employees, guests, and contractors.
- Ability to lift 75 lbs. throughout an 8-hour shift.
- Ability to crawl into and through small spaces, climb ladders, and support/carry loads of 75 lbs.
- May be required to drive.
Work Environment
- Indoor exposure to both stable and extreme variances of hot and cold temperatures.
- Outdoor exposure to all weather elements and extreme temperature fluctuations.
- Prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, and heavy lifting.
