About the Role
Assist in equipment repair and preventative maintenance procedures within the facility.
Responsibilities
- Repair, replace, correct, or adjust equipment to ensure it operates correctly and efficiently according to production requirements.
- Consult with engineers and vendors as needed.
- Perform layout work for each project as required.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues.
- Comply with all safety requirements, policies, and regulations set by Simmons or government agencies concerning safety, environment, vehicle use, food product handling, packaging, and ingredients.
- Participate as a team member in the ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
- Coordinate work to ensure best practices with all team members and attend appropriate team meetings.
- Foster strong team cohesiveness on major issues such as direction, annual plans, budgets, and policy changes.
- Identify areas lacking cohesiveness, bring them to the team leader’s attention, and work toward resolution.
- Reinforce actions needed to achieve synergy within the larger organization.
- Familiarize yourself with Simmons’ operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN) and understand your role in supporting these systems.
- Communicate concerns and improvement ideas related to operating systems.
- Perform other duties as necessary to support business objectives.
Physical Requirements
- Enter and locate information on a computer.
- Visually verify information, often in small print.
- Manually lift or move objects weighing 75-150 pounds.
- Work in extreme temperatures, on your feet for the entire shift.
- Work in cramped, enclosed, elevated, wet, or dirty areas with noise levels above 90 decibels.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Use appropriate footwear, hearing protection, and other protective equipment as required.
Requirements
- Experience or vocational training in welding, electrical or mechanical repair, and refrigeration or hydraulics.
- Preference for candidates with experience in poultry or food processing industries.
- Strong communication skills and decision-making ability.
- Military experience is valued and welcomed.
