About the Role
Chewy is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technician I to join our diverse team at the Jessup, PA Fulfillment Center. In this role, you will apply your expertise to maintain, solve, and optimize the operations of our innovative fulfillment center. Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, housekeeping, plumbing, metal fabrication, and carpentry to support high-speed fulfillment center operations.
- Monitor and ensure all fulfillment center equipment runs efficiently and the work environment remains safe for all team members.
- Complete scheduled and ad-hoc maintenance tasks throughout the facility efficiently and effectively.
- Conduct daily inspections of conveyor systems, shipping, and packing equipment areas to identify and address potential issues.
- Coordinate the maintenance and accountability of assigned equipment and gear, aiming for zero loss, damage, and defects.
- Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to supervise labor utilization and handle parts inventory.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical problems by visually inspecting, testing, and evaluating components, equipment, and circuits.
- Enforce company procedures and protocols to ensure consistent and reliable operations.
- Communicate preventative maintenance and repair needs, escalate issues outside normal hours, and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Identify and address potential issues before they lead to equipment breakdown.
Requirements
- A minimum of 36 months of experience in facility maintenance, with a background in mechanics, construction, engineering, aviation, or transportation repair.
- Proficiency or proven understanding of electrical systems.
- Experience using maintenance tools and equipment effectively.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn. Manual dexterity and good balance are critical for working at ground level and at elevations up to 35 feet.
- Strong curiosity about math, electricity, shop mechanics, electric motors, and appliances.
- Knowledge of potential exposure to high voltage, welding equipment, and various lubricants and solvents.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and/or a floating schedule.
Skills
- Familiarity with fire systems and fire alarm electronic devices.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and plumbing schematics.
- Experience with conveyor systems (belts, drives, tracking valves) and VFD motor controllers, motor starters, and control cabinets.
- Basic knowledge of PLCs, including input/output troubleshooting and some programming.
- Understanding or experience with HVAC systems.
