About the role
Lead a team of skilled trades to safely maintain casting and machining equipment while meeting daily production, quality, and uptime targets.
Responsibilities
- Own the Workplace Safety System for the area: ensure high-risk tasks are controlled, employee safety concerns (ESCs) are reported, closed on time, and feedback is provided to employees.
- Sustain Workplace Organization (WPO) standards and 5S: complete and review WPO audits, correct out-of-standard conditions, and drive a clean, organized maintenance work environment.
- Own Level 4/5 Business Plan Deployment (BPD) boards for the maintenance group: keep SPQRCE metrics current, write and follow up on countermeasures for red metrics, and lead regular board reviews with TLs and support staff.
- Lead problem solving using PPS and tools; use Andon/MTB/Maximo data to identify chronic issues, drive root-cause analysis, and verify effectiveness of implemented countermeasures.
- Plan and prioritize preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance using Maximo; coordinate opportunistic downtime with production to execute planned work and minimize unplanned stops.
- Ensure technical standardized work is in place and followed (GL STS, TIS/JES, PMP, TPM tasks); keep daily/weekly/monthly/yearly GL tasks up to date and audited.
- Verify training and qualification of trades and TLs through JIT and versatility/flex charts; perform monthly JIT checks and close training gaps.
- Protect product quality by ensuring proper handling of non-conforming material, adherence to PQS, support of error-proofing verification, and escalation of quality issues from maintenance activities.
- Manage spare parts and indirect materials processes (cribs, POU cabinets, min/max and FIFO) to support high equipment reliability at lowest total cost.
- Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and recognition for team members; address low performance, support development plans, and reinforce Purpose & Values and the Bedford mission "Together We Cast Our Future."
- Effectively use systems (Maximo, Kronos, Cognos, Intelex, Teamcenter, SharePoint) and plant procedures (Go & See, incident investigation, Supervisor Handbook) to manage work, time, safety, and reporting.
