Maintenance Supervisor

About the role
This role is primarily responsible for performing and supervising preventative maintenance on location equipment within assigned department(s) and/or location(s). Additionally, the role assists in maintenance projects and assessment of future location needs (e.g., facility, terminal, building).
Responsibilities
- Plan, prioritize, perform, inspect, and schedule routine and preventative maintenance tasks at assigned location(s); maintain appropriate documentation for all maintenance and repairs.
- Assist location management team with planning, prioritizing, and directing daily work of location staff.
- Supervise employees in all maintenance department activities, including staffing and job development (hiring, training, performance management, promotions, corrective actions, terminations).
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO, Food Safety, and/or Quality Programs), including participation in company safety programs, pre-shift meetings, and wearing appropriate PPE.
- Troubleshoot problems to prevent downtime and incidents; monitor equipment to ensure proper function and ensure repairs are completed daily by the maintenance team.
- Operate heavy machinery and equipment as needed.
- Coordinate and purchase appropriate inventory for routine tasks and repairs at assigned location(s).
- Provide expertise and mentorship on complex tasks and recommend solutions to mechanical problems.
- Perform safety audits and daily walk-throughs of location and equipment.
- Assist in location-specific projects and plans for upgrades.
- Attend continuing education as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including clean-up of work areas during and after tasks.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma, equivalent, or equivalent experience (Bachelor’s Degree preferred).
- Experience: 5 years’ experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance (experience in a similar industrial role or leading a team preferred).
- Skills:
- Intermediate to advanced understanding of mechanical maintenance, including knowledge of machines, tools, designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for interacting with all levels internally and externally.
- Ability to read and understand measurements and perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Leadership skills or ability to learn and apply them.
- Focus on exceptional customer service both internally and externally.
- Ability to follow directions, use logical thought processes, and recommend solutions to mechanical problems.
- Ability to complete documentation requirements and determine appropriate tools for tasks.
- Ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Preferred: Welding and fabrication experience; Mechanical Maintenance Certificate.
Physical Demands & Requirements
- Physical environment varies by location and may include indoor settings with limited temperature extremes or outdoor conditions (heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid).
- Ability to balance, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel, and squat constantly/continuously.
- Frequent climbing of stairs and ladders to significant heights.
- Constant/continuous ability to concentrate on tasks without distraction.
- Frequent grasping and reaching; ability to enter information into computers.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull 50 lbs. occasionally to continuously, depending on location needs.
- Ability to meet PPE requirements, including PFT and fit testing where applicable.
- Ability to pass FRA and DOT testing for the position (where applicable).
- Ability to work in confined spaces and safely walk on barge surfaces, including around deep/swift water.
- Constant/continuous standing and walking.
- Ability to communicate verbally in person, over two-way radio, and recognize emergency alarms.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and/or alternate shifts as needed.
- Ability to work in high-dust environments around grain and other bulk products (where applicable).
- Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
- Acutely aware of surroundings with the ability to quickly adjust to signals or environmental changes.
- Arm/hand steadiness and multi-limb coordination; manual dexterity for grasping, manipulating, and assembling small objects.
- Uses near, far, and peripheral vision and depth perception for tasks; may need to identify grain-related problems.
Environmental Conditions
- Work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings with exposure to heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
- Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Exposure to fumes, noxious odors, dust, mists, gases, and/or poor ventilation affecting respiratory system, eyes, or skin.
- Travel to various locations may be required; overnight travel may be necessary depending on the department supported.
Pay
The expected base pay range for this role is $76,311.00 - $97,582.00. Actual pay offered may vary depending on work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience.
