Maintenance Supervisor

Reporting directly to the Plant Maintenance Manager, this Maintenance Supervisor will focus on the mechanical maintenance within the plant, overseeing the daily activities of skilled mechanical maintenance personnel and assisting with mechanical project work as assigned. Provides key leadership and technical support to the maintenance department while promoting positive employee relations within the team. Consistently and equitably enforces plant rules, holding crewmembers accountable for all facets of their jobs. Ensures mechanical maintenance activities comply with all environmental, health, and safety requirements, legal and company policies, and procedures in a manner consistent with SGC Principles of Conduct and Action.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for safe maintenance activities; follows, teaches, and improves safety systems and procedures for employees and contractors.
  • Directly supervises hourly skilled mechanical maintenance employees in the improvement and maintenance of plant equipment, building maintenance, machinery, and utilities.
  • Leads shift safety meetings to ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and health policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Organizes and structures planned and unplanned repairs and preventive maintenance routines to ensure efficient operation of equipment and plant systems.
  • Oversees the training of maintenance employees to ensure they receive adequate training prior to repairing or working on manufacturing equipment per standard operating and maintenance procedures.
  • Identifies and executes development opportunities for the maintenance team in both technical and soft skills.
  • Communicates and documents employee expectations, assesses performance, provides coaching, and administers disciplinary action as needed.
  • Progressively improves the Professional Maintenance status of all equipment using WCM techniques and practices.
  • Oversees timely completion of breakdown root cause analysis and countermeasure implementation (EWO).
  • Creates notifications, work orders, and purchase order requisitions using the CMMS system.
  • Works with maintenance lead personnel to ensure correct prioritization and timely completion of all work orders.
  • Collaborates with the Maintenance Manager to develop PMs that drive improved reliability and maintains records of all plant equipment performance.
  • Maintains workplace organization (5S) by holding employees responsible for their assigned work areas.
  • Reviews and approves employee time in the timekeeping system to ensure accurate pay in accordance with policies, procedures, or collective bargaining agreements.
  • Investigates EH&S incidents (injuries, near misses, first aid, environmental, and property/equipment damage) and conducts EHS and SMAT Audits to support plant goals.
  • Ensures adherence to waste management and recycling responsibilities.
  • Participates in the development, understanding, and review of job safety assessments, standard operating procedures, and incident investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Occasional long hours, weekend, and/or holiday work may be required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced knowledge in hydraulics, pneumatics, and fluid power.
  • High level of understanding of Preventive Maintenance (PM) tracking systems.
  • Technical diploma in mechanical engineering/manufacturing or equivalent experience with thorough knowledge of mechanical maintenance in manufacturing improvement.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical diploma (preferred).
  • General understanding of ISO methodology (ISO 9001, 14001, & OHSAS 18001).
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, 5S, and Six Sigma.
  • Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with UKG/Workday and SAP systems.
  • High-level knowledge of computer systems, especially preventive maintenance solutions/tracking.
  • Proficient in SAP ERP Management (preferred).

Skills

  • Ability to troubleshoot, test, calibrate, repair, overhaul, maintain, construct, modify, or install mechanical equipment components, buildings, and land improvements.
  • Proficient in assembling/disassembling equipment, replacing defective parts, repairing damaged parts, adjusting machinery, controls, regulators, and instruments.
  • Ability to observe equipment operation to maximize manufacturing efficiency with minimal downtime for maintenance or repair.
  • Experience with mechanical PPE and proper Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Experience with PLCs, VFDs, AC/DC circuit analysis, general power distribution systems, and natural gas-fired burner controls.

Schedule

2nd Shift (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM), Monday through Friday.
