About the Role

The Maintenance Supervisor - 3rd Shift assists with all maintenance activities to ensure maximum operational potential for the entire plant. This includes functions in Maintenance Business Management, Maintenance Materials Inventory (MRO), Maintenance Recruit to Retire, Manufacturing Process Reliability, and Equipment Reliability. Responsibilities cover departmental budgets, computerized maintenance management systems, preventive/predictive and corrective maintenance programs, and technical skills management of electrical, electronics, controls programming, mechanical systems, waste treatment, stockroom, building and grounds, and utilities systems (e.g., boiler and ammonia refrigeration). The role also involves assisting with the development, coordination, and execution of maintenance-related capital budget items in collaboration with engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Directs maintenance personnel to ensure systems operate at peak capability to meet production schedules, quality, cost, and priority goals.
  • Improves reliability, maintenance, and processing methods to reduce costs and avoid production loss due to equipment malfunction or failure.
  • Determines equipment capabilities, safety, and operational condition in coordination with supervisors and technicians.
  • Develops cost-effective preventative maintenance procedures to increase equipment operational life.
  • Seeks and implements continuous improvement of processes through equipment modifications.
  • Assists in developing system and operational standards and corrective actions.
  • Develops, implements, and reviews site-specific maintenance logs for the department.
  • Coordinates, arranges, and supervises corrective and preventive maintenance in accordance with company procedures and financial considerations.
  • Provides maintenance training, including effective use of maintenance logs and routine maintenance specific to facility and equipment operations.
  • Assists workers in diagnosing machinery and equipment malfunctions.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for job completion.
  • Assists with preparing requisitions to determine spare parts inventory levels.
  • Assists in maintaining a positive departmental operating budget by effectively utilizing workforce and equipment.
  • Supports safety training, monthly safety meetings, safety committee participation, and technical support for safety projects, including implementation of the 9-key element process.
  • Evaluates long-term needs for major projects and factory improvements.
  • Ensures equipment and facilities are maintained in safe, operable condition or arranges for replacements/upgrades.
  • Establishes procedures and contacts for timely equipment repairs.
  • Directs workers in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and utility systems maintenance and repair.
  • Directs workers in dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial machinery.
  • Develops department employee relations through communication and monthly safety meetings, and participates in Plant Safety and Ergonomics committees.
  • Analyzes production downtime reports, identifies opportunities, and initiates action plans to increase efficiencies.
  • Participates in the QRMP yearly audit and assists in developing procedures and corrective actions.
  • Oversees and leads the implementation of the QRMP (Quality Risk Management Process) system to achieve targeted RCR.
  • Assists business leaders with process improvement initiatives (Six Sigma/Lean/Kraft Heinz Management System) including leading change, planning, and facilitation.
  • Supervises Maintenance staff, including performance management and employee development.
  • Communicates with outside agencies such as contractors, equipment suppliers, technical consultants, and vendors.
  • Maintains close coordination with the Maintenance Manager, other Maintenance Supervisors, team members, and Human Resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related technical field is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-5 years of related leadership experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Familiarity with maintenance management system operations.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining TPM Systems is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and utility systems, including ammonia refrigeration and boiler systems, is a plus.
  • Experience with direct and overhead cost systems.
  • Experience using, troubleshooting, and programming Allen Bradley PLCs is a plus.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, afternoons, midnights, and weekends.

Pay

New Hire Base Salary Range: $77,800.00 - $97,300.00. This position is eligible for a performance-based bonus as provided by the plan terms and governing documents. The compensation offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
