About the role

Coastal Waste & Recycling is seeking an experienced and dedicated Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the maintenance and operation of our fleet of waste collection vehicles. This is a 2nd Shift Position: 2:30pm - 1:00am

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and supervise the Division's maintenance staff and functions.
  • Hold responsible for overall fleet/equipment support and associated maintenance processes that include inspection, repair, pre/post servicing, vehicle distribution, quality assurance and disposal.
  • Perform diagnostic tests on garbage trucks and other diesel-powered equipment to identify issues.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of all fleet vehicles, ensuring they are safe and operational.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend vehicle life.
  • Manage and supervise a team of mechanics and technicians, providing guidance and support.
  • Monitor and analyze fleet performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including DOT requirements.
  • Cook up with operations and logistics teams to optimize fleet utilization and efficiency.
  • Manage the budget for fleet operations, including parts, labor, and equipment costs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers for parts and services.
  • Conduct regular safety training and ensure adherence to safety protocols.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a technician, preferably in the waste management or transportation industry.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Knowledge of heating and air conditioning systems, emission systems, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Experience leading a team also helpful.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in using fleet management software and other relevant computer applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure.
