Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor/Equipment)
About the role
Plan and schedule subordinate workday/week, provide immediate supervision and direction to mechanics. Inspect all work performed by subordinates; visit section garages as needed. Provide technical expertise and advice to mechanics. Monitor safety precautions throughout the garage and for employees. Manage necessary paperwork, such as work orders and procurement cards. Manage employee timecards daily and review/approve leave requests daily.
Requirements
- Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as a Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) SG-12 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law.
- Or Provisional Appointment Pending Examination: Current New York State Thruway Authority employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment). Candidates must take the New York State Department of Civil Service exam for this position.
- Or Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP): Current New York State Thruway Authority employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as a Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), if there are three or fewer qualified candidates.
- One year of experience supervising staff engaged in the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of gasoline and/or diesel-powered motor equipment, including passenger vehicles, construction and heavy equipment, freight and other commercial cargo vehicles, self-propelled off-road equipment, and non-self-propelled motor equipment.
- Must be comfortable with computer programs and smartphones.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States at the time of appointment and throughout employment with the New York State Thruway Authority.
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, with potential future conversion to competitive status.
Pay
The salary range for this position includes:
- Base Pay: $57,751 hiring rate up to $82,199 job rate
- Geographic Pay: $7,000
