Maintenance Supervisor 1 - HVACR (1st Shift M-F) Limited to UConn NP-2 Employees Only (one position)

About the role

This position is categorized as “Open to Agency Only”; this position is only open to current UConn NP-2 employees. UConn’s Facilities Operations Department has a job opening for a Maintenance Supervisor 1 – HVACR position within the HVACR Shop. This is a permanent, full-time, 1st shift position, with a work schedule of Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., 37.50 hours per week with an unpaid half an hour for lunch.

Responsibilities

• Leading and supervising highly skilled trades workers and apprentices in the repair and maintenance of HVACR systems
• Coordinating the daily work assignments of the HVACR Shop
• Maintaining work schedules, job assignments and time records
• Maintaining employee records and handling disciplinary issues as required
• Completing service ratings, completing overtime equalization rosters
• Serving on hiring teams as a search committee member
• Overseeing the high pressure hot water and steam systems and cooling systems on campus
• Working with the Utilities, Plumbing and Energy Management Shops to ensure shared equipment is operating appropriately
• Reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints for building heating and cooling systems
• Inspecting jobs for quality, as an “expert” in HVACR code requirements
• Bringing in and overseeing HVACR contractors when needed to upgrade and install heating and cooling systems
• Working with engineering groups to plan upgrades and expansions of systems to accommodate growth of the campus
• Overseeing the estimating of projects and helping to set up assistance from other trade shops as needed
• Assisting the management team in setting up budgets and long range goal planning
• Attending project meetings and making recommendations as to what standards for materials should be, along with determining the best method to carry out projects
• Monitoring cost tracking of projects to meet estimated cost
• Working with EHS to maintain safe and code compliant HVACR systems and work programs
• Working with the Business Service Center to schedule EHS and UConn training for the HVACR Shop which includes but is not limited to: Continuing Education, Code, Asbestos Awareness, Confined Space, Lockout/Tag out, Mold Awareness, and Respiratory Protection & Fit Testing
• Responding to emergency heating and cooling failures outside of regular work hours as required

Requirements

• Five (5) years of experience in the trade area indicated by the parenthetical title
• Two (2) years of the General Experience must have included performing highly skilled duties in the trade area indicated by the parenthetical title

• Considerable knowledge of relevant state and national codes and regulations
• Modern methods and equipment involved in the trade indicated by the parenthetical title

Special Requirements

• Possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications including possession and retention of a license as an Unlimited Journeyperson in the trade area indicated by the parenthetical title
• Travel may be required
• Possess and retain a current State of Connecticut Heating, Piping or Cooling license
• Possess and retain a current “universal” certificate for refrigerant transition and recovery
• Possess and retain a current motor vehicle operator license throughout employment with the University
