Maintenance Specialist, Senior
Join a skilled maintenance team responsible for keeping critical pneumatic transport systems operating efficiently and reliably. This is a 2nd Shift, on-site position.
About the Role
Independently perform complex technical tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, and repair of pneumatic tube and pipe systems. This role may be assigned to a trades shop or specialty area/location, focusing on the maintenance and repair of pneumatic tube systems as well as pneumatic trash and linen systems.
Responsibilities
- Independently perform specialized technical tasks in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of pneumatic tube/pipe equipment and systems, including the Pneumatic Tube System and Pneumatic Trash and Linen Systems.
- Conduct periodic inspections of designated facilities, equipment, and systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on pneumatic systems to minimize downtime.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and maintenance/repair records to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and codes.
- Maintain documentation for riser and network portions of the systems, including riser diagrams, IP addresses, inventory of replacement parts, and system components.
- Maintain inventory of tube system carriers and carrier inserts, ensuring each station has the allotted amount.
- Consult with equipment manufacturers for technical assistance, warranty service, or repairs beyond warranty.
- Research manufacturer sites, equipment manuals, and online resources to obtain required replacement parts.
- Work with vendors to acquire pricing and complete purchase requisitions for parts and materials.
- Coordinate and manage outside vendors for necessary repairs to pneumatic systems.
- Collaborate with outside vendors on renovation and new construction projects involving pneumatic systems.
- Attend manufacturer training at offsite locations as necessary.
- Research, learn, and self-train on pneumatic systems using manufacturer manuals and training guides.
- Advise management on the general condition of equipment and systems, recommend improvements or upgrades, and compile data to support recommendations.
- Provide technical assistance, instruction, and consultation to staff members for resolving special problems.
- Train maintenance staff and clinical staff (users of the systems) on system operations.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent with coursework in skilled crafts.
- Minimum of six (6) years of maintenance and repair experience related to the specific trade or equipment, with proven leadership skills.
- An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may be considered.
- State of NC contractor's license in a specific trade may be required or preferred.
- Valid N.C. Driver's license is required.
- Experience/training in a healthcare setting is preferred.
Pay
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $26.19 to USD $43.31 per hour. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market considerations are considered when extending an offer.
