The Maintenance Planner plays a critical role in driving maintenance effectiveness, asset reliability, and operational efficiency by coordinating and planning maintenance activities within a manufacturing environment. This individual is responsible for developing detailed maintenance plans, ensuring resource availability, supporting preventive maintenance initiatives, and coordinating outage and shutdown activities to maximize equipment uptime and productivity. Key Responsibilities Develop comprehensive maintenance job plans including work scope, labor requirements, materials, tools, safety procedures, permits, and estimated costs.Create detailed work packages that enable maintenance personnel to execute tasks efficiently, safely, and with minimal delays.Coordinate the procurement, availability, staging, and tracking of materials, parts, equipment, and external resources required for planned maintenance activities.Prepare purchase requisitions and collaborate with purchasing and storeroom teams to ensure timely availability of critical components.Maintain equipment Bills of Materials (BOMs), spare parts inventories, and asset-related documentation within the CMMS system.Manage the maintenance planning process by converting work requests into fully planned and schedule-ready work orders.Develop, update, and optimize preventive maintenance (PM) procedures and job plans to enhance equipment reliability and performance.Partner with maintenance, operations, and reliability teams to prioritize work, manage backlog, and build weekly maintenance schedules.Lead planning efforts for outages, shutdowns, and turnaround events, including manpower forecasting, contractor coordination, and schedule development.Support outage execution through coordination of internal teams and external contractors to ensure projects are completed safely and on schedule.Identify critical-path activities and integrate maintenance work into production schedules to minimize downtime and operational impact.Review contractor scopes of work, facilitate site visits, and support the bidding process for outsourced maintenance projects.Monitor labor utilization, material consumption, and project costs to support budget management and cost control initiatives.Promote compliance with all safety, environmental, and company standards during planning and execution activities.Participate in planning meetings and cross-functional discussions to align maintenance priorities with operational objectives. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Maintenance Management, or a related technical discipline preferred.Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.Minimum 5 years of maintenance planning, maintenance supervision, reliability, engineering, or industrial maintenance experience within a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance practices, preventive maintenance methodologies, and equipment reliability principles.Experience utilizing CMMS platforms such as JD Edwards, SAP, Maximo, or similar maintenance management systems.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; project management software experience is beneficial.Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving, and coordination skills.Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and collaborate across maintenance, operations, engineering, and contractor teams. Preferred Background Experience within paper, packaging, chemical, metals, food manufacturing, or other process-driven industrial environments.Strong knowledge of maintenance planning, outage management, turnaround execution, and contractor oversight.Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), predictive maintenance (PdM), and continuous improvement initiatives.Demonstrated ability to improve maintenance efficiency, reduce downtime, and support overall plant performance.
