Maintenance Planning Supervisor - 1st Shift

About the Role

This role is responsible for assisting with the development of reliability-based maintenance strategy, based on preventive and predictive maintenance. The Supervisor will work directly with the Maintenance Manager to build a reliable maintenance team and perform preventative, predictive, and routine maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of 1-5 employees, including hiring and performance management.
  • Maintain equipment records in SAP.
  • Plan and schedule corrective work to maximize crew utilization and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate outside service requests, establish purchase orders, ensure purchase orders are closed, and manage expenses within budget requirements.
  • Use computers and software programs such as Word, Excel, and Visio to plan maintenance activities, develop training documents, and create process flow charts.
  • Track metrics, performance, and efficiency of work scheduled using spreadsheets, graphs, reports, PowerPoint slides, and bulletin boards.
  • Read and comprehend technical manuals, service manuals, diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Proactively collaborate with other plants to ensure predictive and preventative plans are uniform on like equipment.
  • Manage predictive and preventive maintenance for an area of production equipment and schedule required corrective actions.
  • Ensure production areas are maintained to current GMP standards.
  • Understand operations, procedures, inventory parts, LOTO, improvements, breakdown analysis, PM’s, 5S, etc., within the production area.
  • May supervise clerical staff in support of computer maintenance system and planning functions.
  • Maintain equipment repair records in compliance with company policy.
  • Oversee and coordinate maintenance personnel who maintain and repair electrical, plumbing, ventilation, and other building systems.
  • Oversee projects assigned by the maintenance manager.
  • Respond to calls from production immediately and assign appropriate personnel to handle the call.
  • Evaluate problematic systems, equipment, and facilities to determine repair or installation needs.
  • Answer emergency calls when off-shift and ensure appropriate personnel respond.
  • Schedule maintenance personnel to ensure no gap in facility coverage.
  • Train and cross-train maintenance personnel so all can perform various maintenance jobs.
  • Adhere to and enforce safety procedures through education, training, and use of protective equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Hands-on maintenance experience is required.
  • Ability to build and use a maintenance library for repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical/engineering documents, drawings, and schematics.
  • Ability to write detailed repair reports and communicate verbally.
  • Result-driven, problem-solving mindset with basic experience in continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting demands and prioritize accordingly.
  • Project management skills are preferred.
  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and SAP experience are preferred.
  • Excellent proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite products.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS or equivalent is preferred, ideally in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent knowledge and skills acquired through on-the-job training or experience.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed within a manufacturing plant environment with noise, extreme temperatures, and significant movement of powered equipment, people, and conveyors.
  • Work conditions are typical of a food manufacturing facility.
  • Must be willing to work a changing shift schedule and on a rotating weekend on-call list. Off-shift, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
  • Physical requirements may include lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent/infrequent bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, stretching/reaching, and using hands or fingers.
  • May require standing/walking on concrete flooring for greater than 4 hours.
  • No domestic travel is required.
