What this job involves
The Maintenance Operations Supervisor leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for equipment calibration programs, and comprehensive planning and scheduling operations. This role ensures technical accuracy, operational efficiency, and seamless coordination across operations while maintaining compliance with industry standards and organizational objectives.
The role is responsible for ensuring the quality execution of preventative maintenance programs by conducting routine auditing of PMs and corrective work. The Maintenance Operations Supervisor works with cross-functional teams to optimize performance, meet business needs and regulatory compliance.
What your day-to-day will look like
- Strategic Leadership & Team Management
- Partner with maintenance leadership to align on standards, manage Planning & Scheduling, CMMS, and Calibration teams, and drive continuous improvement through data analytics and best practice sharing across facilities.
- Oversees building HVAC and mechanical systems operations, ensuring optimal performance, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance while managing preventive maintenance programs, troubleshooting equipment failures, and coordinating with vendors and engineering teams to minimize downtime and extend asset lifecycles.
- Maintenance Program Execution
- Oversee preventative maintenance program compliance, conduct daily planning meetings, perform routine audits of PM and corrective work, and ensure quality execution while managing backlogs and schedule conflicts.
- Equipment Reliability & Root Cause Analysis
- Support operational event and equipment failure investigations using RCA, RCM, FMEA, and CAPA methodologies to identify root causes, prescribe corrective actions, and monitor effectiveness.
- Calibration & Quality Control
- Oversee all equipment calibration activities to ensure regulatory compliance and manufacturer specifications, implement continuous improvement initiatives, and establish quality control processes for all outputs.
- Safety Culture & Compliance
- Drive safety culture across site including contractors and visitors, ensure compliance with ISO9001, FDA regulations, GxP principles, and all regulatory laws, and proactively identify and remediate safety hazards.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Develop and maintain KPIs including PM schedule compliance, budget compliance, equipment availability, MTBF, and production performance, providing regular status reporting to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Commissioning & Project Support
- Support commissioning activities for upgrades, renovations, and construction projects including PM job plans, maintainability reviews, critical spares identification, and documentation development.
- Training & Workforce Development
- Champion development and sustainment of skills matrix for maintenance teams, evaluate and coach technicians, provide hands-on instruction in maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with operations, engineering, facilities, and project management teams to support organizational objectives, share knowledge, document procedures, and promote best practices to improve system reliability organization-wide.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of facilities maintenance experience with HVAC or mechanical
- Strong working knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation systems
- Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Calibration certification (ASQ, CQT, CCT, or similar)
- Prior experience working in a life sciences Bio-Pharma environment
- Understanding of metrology-specific compliance requirements
Physical Work Requirements & Work Conditions
- Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:15 AM – 4 PM (inclusive of on-call for support when needed)
- Ability to work extended periods on a computer.
