About the role

The Senior Maintenance Mechanic performs semi-skilled general maintenance and preventive maintenance work, requiring general knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques, materials, tools, and equipment. This is an essential position that may require working independently on assigned shifts.

Responsibilities

• Daily inspection of all building components and equipment within assigned areas.
• Perform comprehensive preventive maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems and structural components of buildings and equipment.
• Respond to related requests and troubleshoot problems.
• Assist area maintenance mechanics on tasks as required.
• Inspect mechanical and structural components to ensure operational readiness and safety; determine necessary repairs.
• Make repairs to building components and systems; obtain assistance from senior personnel when needed.
• Prepare recurring reports reflecting daily operations and project status.
• Complete and update logs, charts, and service manuals.
• Prepare estimates of time and material required for assigned tasks.
• Report deficiencies and safety problems to senior personnel.
• Ensure adequate supplies, materials, and equipment are maintained in assigned areas.
• Operate and maintain tools and equipment of the assigned area; clean work area upon completion.
• Assist journey-level trades personnel in skilled maintenance and repair work, including new construction and renovations.
• Serve in other maintenance areas as required, including during vacations, weekends, or emergencies.

Requirements

• Four years of related work experience, three of which must have been in the trade area where assigned.
• Additional related experience or formal education may substitute for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis (30 college credits = one year of experience).
• General knowledge of semi-skilled building construction or maintenance and repair practices and techniques in the assigned trade area.
• General knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to the assigned trade area.
• Skill in the use of tools and equipment of the trade.
• Ability to inspect, adjust, repair, and replace building fixtures and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively.
• Ability to prepare estimates of time and material required for assigned work.
• Ability to apply quality and safety standards, complete logs, and prepare records and reports.
• Ability to work in, on, around, over, and under fixed equipment or machinery, including at heights up to 35 feet.
• Ability to manipulate heavy equipment, tools, or supplies (up to 70 lbs).
• Ability to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment.
• Ability to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions.
• Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
• Valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license.

Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or examinations to determine ability to perform the job. Training to work with asbestos may be required.

Pay

$45,375 annually. A 2.5% increase may be added pending successful completion of the initial six-month probationary period. Applicants with TU or USM service may receive salary credit.

Schedule

Standard workday is Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with weekends on a rotation.
