This role involves diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling machines and hydraulic equipment, with a focus on maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of automotive manufacturing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, troubleshoot, and maintain CNCs, presses, and other plant equipment, including electrical repair and PLC troubleshooting.
  • Perform heavy machine repair of presses and conduct predictive and preventative maintenance on all machines.
  • Install new equipment based on blueprints and layout schematics.
  • Rebuild and/or refurbish equipment, including CNCs, presses, conveyors, feed systems, and transfers.
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness, and orderliness of the Maintenance Department and equipment during work.
  • Support and participate in division and department improvement initiatives, including the Continuous Improvement Suggestion Program.
  • Assist in the implementation of MAFACT, including lean, standardized work, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Complete required paperwork and computer tasks for the position.
  • Proactively maintain and improve overall safety as a service provider.
  • Perform 5S activities on equipment as required by MAFACT standards.
  • Participate in spill response teams and attend annual training.
  • Engage in MAFACT Teams and continuous improvement activities, including submitting cost-saving suggestions (CIPs).
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures, including IATF16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and the Employee Handbook.
  • Follow MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations, wear required PPE, and report unsafe conditions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.; Journeyman status preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in machine maintenance and repair, including heavy machine repair of presses and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of CNCs, stamping presses, pneumatics, hydraulics, and basic electrical systems.
  • Experience with MIG and Arc welding, and use of cutting torches.
  • Ability to read hydraulic and lube schematics, as well as blueprints.
  • Proficiency in operating maintenance machinery such as Bridgeport, surface grinder, lathe, drill press, and precision measuring equipment.
  • Own tools required for maintenance functions.
  • Effective communication in English (both written and oral).
  • Willingness to pursue further education to improve skillset.

Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain man-lift and hi-lo permits.
  • Ability to obtain Confined Space certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of AS400 and bar code labeling systems.
  • Strong reasoning skills to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Active listening and professional communication skills.

Skills

  • Mathematical proficiency: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and computation of rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to adapt new methods, processes, materials, and equipment.
  • Understanding of tool room machines and their functions.

Physical Demands

The role requires frequent reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, stretching, and standing for prolonged periods. Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs, and working at heights (up to 40 feet) or in confined spaces. Regular use of computers, vision adjustment for close, color, and distance tasks, and the ability to work indoors, outdoors, and in moderate to loud noise environments.

Work Environment

The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to high, precarious places, vibration, and moderate to loud noise levels.
