About the role
The Maintenance Mechanics at Emory University are responsible for maintaining the safe operation and maintenance of building facilities, electrical, and mechanical systems and plumbing. They also participate in the onboarding and training of all staff.
Responsibilities
- Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, schematics and written technical documents of general machineries to locate area of trouble and complete repairs accurately.
- Repairs and adjusts doors, windows, closures, panic devices and locks.
- Patches holes, installs escutcheons, repairs ceiling and floor tile as needed to maintain building appearance.
- Makes minor masonry and wood repairs.
- Installs pictures, coat hooks, other wall hung furnishings, and equipment as requested.
- Operates and maintains specific equipment, conducts surveys and inventories, performs preventive maintenance activities, responds to customer complaints, and repairs equipment.
- May perform daily chemical tests on water systems and adjust chemical mixtures and feed rates.
- Enters data into computer systems and databases.
- Maintains records and files; interprets applicable regulations and filing and auditing policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Ensures compliance with applicable regulations, policies and procedures.
- Practices all applicable safety regulations and uses personal protective equipment as required.
- Responds to customer requests and complaints in a timely and appropriate manner; identifies and records need or problem and determines best approach to resolve situation following departmental guidelines.
- Provides guidance to staff to ensure work orders are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assigns and schedules work.
- Operates and maintains building facilities, systems and equipment related to plumbing, electricity, HVAC, and steam control.
- Operates and maintains building equipment and systems such as vacuum systems, control air systems, building air systems, emergency generators, electrical distribution systems, liquid pumping systems, steam, air handling systems, hot/cold water systems and natural gas and fuel oil systems.
Requirements
- A high school diploma and three years of experience in building maintenance, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Working knowledge of commercial HVAC, plumbing, electrical, structural, and general carpentry.
- Working knowledge of computer or mobile applications.
- Ability to conduct hands-on training for others.
Qualifications
- Valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
- Some positions may require the ability to lift 50 pounds and to bend, stoop, twist, climb a ladder, and walk for distances up to one mile.

Pay
The starting pay range for this position is $X per hour, based on qualifications and experience. Exact pay will be determined through a competitive process.
Schedule
The Maintenance Mechanics work shifts on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays (off Wednesdays and Thursdays), from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM.
