About the Role
This is an entry-level position requiring basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and movable equipment. The Maintenance Mechanic I role allows the incumbent to learn operations for movable equipment, electrical, plumbing, and pneumatic tube systems, as well as the proper use of basic tools and equipment necessary for maintenance and troubleshooting. This position supports large hospital campuses and ensures a safe working environment while contributing to an exceptional Environment of Care for Mercy.
Responsibilities
- Learn and perform maintenance on movable equipment, electrical, plumbing, and pneumatic tube systems.
- Utilize basic tools and equipment to troubleshoot and repair systems.
- Maintain a safe working environment and support the hospital’s Environment of Care.
- Communicate effectively with customers and follow instructions.
- Read and understand technical manuals and blueprints.
- Perform calculations for testing, installation, measurement, estimation, and repair of equipment.
- Prioritize work assignments and manage time and materials efficiently.
- Complete work assignments with high quality at the lowest cost to Mercy.
- Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills and achieve department goals.
- Use computer software such as Outlook, TMS, and/or Nuvolo.
Requirements
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Oral and written communication skills to follow instructions and interact with customers.
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals and blueprints.
- Basic math knowledge for calculations related to testing, installation, and repair.
- Mechanical aptitude and general manual dexterity.
- Ability to prioritize work and conceptualize finished products.
- Spatial ability to understand forms and relationships when working from specifications.
- Must achieve favorable results on both oral and written competency exams prior to advancing to Maintenance Mechanic II.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures, electric shock, and loud noise may occur.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 or more years of training in a Technical or Vocational School.
- 1 or more years of experience as a maintenance technician in a healthcare, educational, or industrial setting.
- Electrical and/or plumbing licensure.
- ASSE 6040 training for medical gas maintenance.

Schedule
Full-Time (40 hours per week), Days (7:45 AM – 4:15 PM).
