Maintenance Mechanic I - FT, Days

Find your calling at Mercy! This is an entry-level position requiring basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and movable equipment. It is recommended that incumbents attend one or two years of trade school to prepare them for advancement opportunities. The Maintenance Mechanic I position will allow the incumbent to learn operations for movable equipment, electrical, plumbing, and pneumatic tube systems, as well as the proper use of basic tools and equipment necessary to maintain and troubleshoot these systems. This position supports large hospital campuses and ensures a safe working environment while contributing to an exceptional Environment of Care for Mercy.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and perform maintenance operations for movable equipment, electrical systems, plumbing, and pneumatic tube systems.
  • Utilize basic tools and equipment to maintain and troubleshoot systems.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and follow instructions using oral and written communication skills.
  • Read and understand technical manuals, make calculations for testing, installation, measurement, estimation, and repair of equipment.
  • Prioritize work assignments, conceptualize and formulate finished products, and manage time and materials efficiently.
  • Complete work assignments in a high-quality manner at the lowest cost to Mercy.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills and achieve department goals.
  • Achieve favorable results on both oral and written competency exams prior to advancing to Maintenance Mechanic II.

Requirements

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and movable equipment (entry-level).
  • Oral and written communication skills to follow instructions and interact with customers.
  • Ability to read technical manuals and perform numerical calculations for testing, installation, and repair.
  • Form perception for measuring and installing parts and equipment.
  • Spatial ability to understand blueprints and specifications.
  • Knowledge and use of computer software such as Outlook, TMS, and/or Nuvolo.
  • General manual dexterity, basic math knowledge, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work in environments with exposure to extreme temperatures, electric shock, and loud noise.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of training in a technical or vocational school.
  • Electrical and/or plumbing licensure.
  • One or more years of experience as a maintenance technician in a healthcare, educational, or industrial setting.
  • ASSE 6040 training for medical gas maintenance.

Schedule

Full-time (40 hours per week), Days (7:45 AM – 4:15 PM).
