Maintenance Mechanic - Full Time - Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital

Responsibilities

• Affords assistance to the Maintenance Director in performing general facility repairs and grounds upkeep.
• Executes general tasks including plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical system installations and repairs.
• Collects and processes Maintenance Repair Orders (MRO) daily, completing repairs and signing off on MROs to confirm completion.
• Follows a project list prioritized by the Director and lead technician, signing off after each task is completed.
• Performs carpentry, ground maintenance, painting, and roof maintenance tasks.
• Operates tools and equipment safely and according to proper procedures.
• Familiarizes with various building codes, JCAHO codes, Life Safety codes, and other relevant governmental and insurance codes.
• Maintains awareness of safety policies and follows facility fire, safety, and evacuation plans.
• Handles minor repairs; major repairs must be approved by the Director.
• Adheres to facility procedures for controlling equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness and proper storage during breaks and shifts.
• Assists in the cleaning and repair of various areas within the facility, including HVAC, sprinkler systems, plumbing, elevators, electrical systems, smoke detectors, fire panels, pest control systems, patient call lights, fences, patios, outside lighting, trash, walkways, parking lots, painted surfaces, wallpapered areas, and ceiling tiles.
• Examines and repairs painted surfaces, touching up chipped or scratched paint, and repairing and replacing wallpaper seams and stained ceiling tiles.
• Ensures personal availability for on-call services, providing weekend, holiday, and vacation coverage, and participating in emergency repair rotations with the Director and staff.
• Supports the upkeep and repairs of patient areas as directed.
• May perform errands using one's own transportation as assigned.
• Participates in facility education programs as required.
