Maintenance Mechanic - Full-Time - Dayshift (8a - 4:30p)

About the role

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining building space, equipment, systems, and grounds. This includes troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining health system facilities to ensure efficient and safe operation. The role supports Frederick Health’s mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy while adhering to compliance and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and contractor coordination in support of the General Maintenance program and CMMS.
• Conduct a wide variety of general building maintenance, including wall repairs, ceiling tile replacement, light bulb replacement, and general plumbing maintenance (e.g., leak response, investigation, and mitigation).
• Provide maintenance, inspection, and repair support for Facilities Management Department systems and equipment.
• Participate in planned or unplanned interruptions of various systems as needed.
• Perform drywall repair and painting, door repair and maintenance, and general building repairs (walls, floors, doors, ceilings, lights, furniture).
• Install and inspect building features such as pictures, monitors, shelving, furniture, fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and exit/emergency lights.
• Support Facilities Management, Plant, and Trades staff and contractors.
• Interface with CMMS systems for preventive maintenance, repairs, projects, and documentation.
• Read and interpret as-built building blueprints, technical diagrams, and equipment manuals.
• Demonstrate excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills while working independently or within a team.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3 years of HVAC, maintenance, electrical, or plumbing experience in a commercial setting OR 2 years of such experience in a healthcare setting.
• Valid Driver’s license required.
• Knowledge of troubleshooting, diagnosing, installation, repair, and maintenance of building systems (e.g., plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, painting).
• Familiarity with tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair.
• Strong technical aptitude and ability to read blueprints and technical diagrams.

Physical Demands

• Medium-Heavy Work: Lifting up to 75 pounds infrequently (less than once every three minutes) and/or carrying up to 35 pounds while walking.
• Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).
• Ergonomic risk factors include:
  • Repetition: Repeating motions that may stress muscles and tendons.
  • Forceful Exertion: Physical effort required for tasks such as moving equipment or maintaining control of tools.
  • Awkward Posture: Prolonged or repeated reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, or working overhead.
  • Contact Stress: Pressure on the body from sharp edges, such as using the palm to strike objects.

Working Conditions

• Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens (Category B – may have exposure to blood or body fluids).
• On-call rotation required.

Pay

Hourly range: $20.84 – $30.68, based on experience, skills, and education. Shift differential and overtime may apply for non-exempt positions.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with on-call rotation.
