Maintenance Mechanic Electrician

About the role

Under general supervision, this position performs a wide variety of electrical work, including the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical supply and power systems, appliances, and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and repairs fire alarm systems and related equipment.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs motors, transformers, air conditioners, fans, buzzers, public address systems, generators, and auxiliary generators.
  • Installs and connects switches, wiring, outlets, and wall, ceiling, pole, and outdoor fixtures.
  • Cuts and bends conduit and performs other electrical installation and repair work.
  • Maintains and repairs traffic signals and road signs.
  • Performs emergency electrical repair work as required.
  • Troubleshoots electrical power systems and works with high-voltage electrical equipment.
  • Uses electrical test equipment and reads and interprets electrical drawings, blueprints, rough sketches, and the National Electrical Code.
  • Coordinates electrical work with the work of other trades.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares basic reports related to work completed and inventory.
  • May assist with obtaining materials and equipment from vendors.
  • May operate special vehicles in the performance of assigned duties.
  • May use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, and database software in performing work assignments.
  • May plan and supervise the work of Maintenance Workers (Electrician) or other subordinate maintenance personnel.
  • Performs other related electrical installation, maintenance, and repair tasks as directed.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current Master Electrician License issued by the Westchester County Electrical Licensing Board in accordance with Sections 277.702 and 277.707 of Westchester County Law Article XVII.
  • The required Master Electrician License must be current and maintained throughout employment.
  • At the time of appointment, the incumbent may be required to possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for any vehicle operated in the performance of assigned duties.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of the tools, processes, terminology, installation, maintenance, and repair techniques associated with the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and local codes and OSHA safety standards.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems.
  • Ability to calculate electrical loads and wire sizes.
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints and electrical drawings.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
