About the role

Maintenance Mechanic I is an entry-level position at SEARHC, a non-profit health consortium serving Southeast Alaska. The role assists higher-level staff in maintaining, repairing, and installing equipment and components across various healthcare facilities. Key responsibilities include completing work orders, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing systems, and handling carpentry tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on systems, equipment, and tools as directed by the Facility Manager.
  • Schedule and document work completed, including data entry into the PM program.
  • Troubleshoot and repair basic mechanical issues, such as heating and cooling systems, boilers, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Carry out journeyman-level carpentry tasks as requested by the Facility Manager, including concrete work, floor coverings, door installations, cabinet building, wall hanging, ceiling installation, drywall repair, and painting.
  • Operate various shop tools and heavy equipment, such as table saws, rip saws, jointers, planers, routers, forklifts, dump trucks, and backhoes.
  • Install and repair locks, perform key-making, and manage locksmith supplies.
  • Maintain parking lots and entrances, including snow plowing, applying non-slip materials, landscaping, removing litter, and managing signs.
  • Identify and order supplies, track inventory, and make cost-effective purchase decisions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED – preferred
  • Valid driver's license and insurability under SEARHC auto insurance policy – required
  • Complete Lockout Tagout online course within 90 days of hire.
  • Complete eye wash weekly testing competency within 90 days.
  • Pass Safety-10-hour OSHA Competency and Life safety 101 Competency within 90 days.

Qualifications

  • No prior experience required.
  • Preferred mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic knowledge of facility maintenance, mechanical systems, groundskeeping, woodworking, drywall repair, painting, etc.
  • Basic troubleshooting and repair skills for mechanical and electrical components.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to safely perform duties related to the position's responsibilities with direction and oversight.
  • Proficiency in operating small engines, landscaping equipment, chainsaws, snowblowers, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Ability to work in various terrains and conditions, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Pay

The starting pay range for this position is $25.00 - $31.88 per hour.

Schedule

The position works an OT 8/40 schedule.
