About the role
Working for a world-class leader in building structures and bridges, a Schuff Steel Maintenance Mechanic brings his/her expertise and knowledge in the field of commercial and preventative maintenance. Critical to the production process, this position performs necessary repairs and maintenance to various heavy fabrication equipment within the facility.
Responsibilities
- Repair and maintain shop machines and equipment
- Analyze problems with various equipment and machines
- Recommend cost-effective solutions
- Maintain working knowledge of repair and maintenance on motors, controls, hydraulics, and pneumatic equipment
- Work with minimum supervision
- Climb to perform repairs with no fear of heights
- Keep work area organized and clean
- Adhere to and follow all safety rules and PPE requirements
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and at least 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Familiar with OSHA, EPA requirements and local codes
- Safe working habits
- Ability to weld
- Experience with cranes and hoists
Skills
- Equipment knowledge and skills, including various shop hand tools and maintenance repair equipment
- Language skills: ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure; ability to apply basic math concepts
- Reasoning ability: ability to apply common sense understanding and in-depth understanding to carry out instructions; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables; ability to learn things quickly
