About the role

The role of a Nucor Marion Mechanic is to work with the maintenance and operations teams to achieve the safest, most efficient and most cost-effective means of operation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and upgrading all types of production equipment, using their knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmissions, water systems, welding, machining, and pipe fitting, completing process improvement projects, and providing mechanical support to operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade all types of production equipment
  • Use knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmissions, water systems, welding, machining, and pipe fitting
  • Complete process improvement projects
  • Provide mechanical support to operations

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of basic mechanical principles
  • Experience with working on hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical maintenance and repairs
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams
  • Welding experience: MIG, TIG, ARC, and stainless-steel welding techniques
  • 3+ years’ experience in industrial or military mechanical maintenance

Qualifications

  • 2-year or 4-year degree in mechanical or related field (preferred)
  • Experience maintaining overhead cranes (preferred)
  • Advanced training/certifications in Mechanical maintenance (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Preventative and Predictive Maintenance (preferred)
  • Prior Steel industry experience in mechanical maintenance (preferred)
  • Experience operating forklifts and/or other mobile equipment (preferred)

Skills

  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmissions, water systems, welding, machining, and pipe fitting
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams
  • Welding experience: MIG, TIG, ARC, and stainless-steel welding techniques
  • Experience with Preventative and Predictive Maintenance
  • Experience operating forklifts and/or other mobile equipment
