Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to mobile/heavy equipment including gasoline and diesel engines.
• Possess basic troubleshooting skills related to diesel and gasoline engine systems.
• Repair and replace bearings, brakes, bushings, springs, axles, alternators, wiring harnesses, gaskets, fittings, seals, hydraulics, etc.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing instruments to troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform mechanical repairs on mobile equipment.
• Execute work orders and compile maintenance records in accordance with all Company procedures and regulatory standards.
• Ensure completion of weekly HME schedule and order and receive all necessary parts.
• Identify needed parts and order them for respective work orders.
• Complete brake rebuilds and repairs.
• Perform MIG welding and arc welding.
• Perform cutting with oxy/acetylene torch.
• Complete industrial engine and other major component overhauls.
• Use software to diagnose and repair HME effectively.
• Complete PM work orders on all mobile equipment within the scope of the work order.
• Document history on work orders in SAP with quality comments.
• Input quality notifications into SAP (5+ per week).
• Populate preventative work orders based on equipment hours.
• Physically inspect all mobile equipment and related equipment at least once per shift to detect mechanical problems and ensure employee safety; record results of inspection.
• Perform all assigned work adhering to company and governmental safety rules and regulations.
• Attend scheduled safety meetings.
• Enforce all applicable safety policies.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Promote safety among co-workers.
• Participate in Behavior Based Safety program.
• Ensure a Safe Quality Food (SQF) workplace and follow regulatory compliance with Federal FDA – Food Modernization Safety Act (CFR Code of Federal Regulations Title 21, Part 507).
• Support Environmental Health and Safety, as well as SQF initiatives and awareness programs.
• Be a leader and promoter of employee safety and SQF culture.
• Demonstrate understanding of expected safety, SQF performance, and Food Safety Culture following SQF training.
• Complete periodic SQF training(s).
• Actively participate in audits for regulatory, safety, SQF, and environmental compliance at the site.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Diesel mechanic background with in-depth troubleshooting skills.
• Experience in welding, diesel engine repair, electrical work, and hydraulics.
• Effectively communicate and interact with supervisors and peers with the ability to multi-task and stay calm under pressure.
• Understand the mechanics of mobile equipment.
• Handle multiple tasks with a strong sense of urgency to meet customer needs.
• Strong compliance and safety orientation.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
• Basic reading and math skills.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as work orders, blueprints, mechanical drawings, safety rules, standard operating procedures, maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong record of attendance reliability.
• Capable of working any shift, overtime, being on-call, or working seven days a week if needed.
• Ability to take initiative and work with co-workers to accomplish defined goals in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands

• Physically able to perform assigned work.
• Capable of accessing all plant locations, including heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
• Working at times in a covered environment but mainly in a lime/mineral environment.
• Exposure to extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils, and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes, and mineral particles.
• Required actions (from time to time): standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing, and sitting.
• Ability to consistently lift over 75 pounds as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Technical training or AA degree in a technical-related field is desired.
• Previous maintenance experience is preferred.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of work experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, including mechanical experience with diesel engines and heavy equipment.
• Five (5) plus years of experience is preferred.
